I have several questions about events. Please do not tell me to check my help files, because they are in japanese for some reason. Anyways, I was wondering how to have people, or enemies walk up to you when you trigger an event. This is part of a side quest, so I cannot have it on autorun, and the person cannot be the event. I already have the autorun event for the beginning of the side quest map. It is really frustrating.

Second, how do I get objects to do stuff. Like, I have a pentagram I want to use as a teleporter, but I want it to glow when you step onto it before it teleports you, and I want it to be activated by a certain object. Is that even possible?

Third, I have an idea for accessing the final boss' lair. My character has to collect thirteen crystals to gain entry to the final boss. Is there a wall that I can place in front of the boss' castle that will glow and vanish when I use the thirteen crystals? And if I can't link it to thirteen items, how about if the crystals join into one final crystal and then use that on the door? Please tell me. It would be a great help.

Fourth, I want to have side battles so that my characters show up on the screen. Is that even possible?

Finally, is there a site to download good videos to use for my magic on this game? I want it unique, to where each spell has a specific video to use for it.

I wonder why they are in Japanese? In your scripts, are the comments also in Japanese? Aren't you the person who was translating the vocab script and ran into problems? Where did you buy/download Ace from? Are you using the full version or just the trial (or Lite - though I don't think that's the case, as you can't edit scripts in Lite)?


Even if you can't read your help file, there are heaps of beginner tutorials on the forum here that you could take a look at. I'm pretty sure Andar helped you with your other issue, so if you go back and find his comment in your other thread, follow the link in his signature. That's probably the best place to start.


1. You're making a mini cutscene. You should have ONE event that controls everything, and the others just have the necessary graphics. Trying to put some of the processing onto multiple events is just an invitation for things to go wrong. Check the blog article under the Tips & Tricks section, called "Events are not NPCs: The Biggest Mistake in Cutscene Events" which will give you a starting point to go from.


2. I think there's a character sprite for a glowing pentagram. Set your event's graphic to it, set it to Below Characters, and give it a Player Touch trigger. In the events, do a Set Move Route (This Event) and turn Stepping Animation ON. Wait for a second (60 frames) or so, and then do the transfer. To make it activated by a certain object, you'd use switches.


3. Yes, you can place something in front of the door to the final boss. Having it glow and disappear would rely on having the necessary sprites to make it glow. If you need to collect 13 crystals, you can just do a Control Variables on the event and set a variable to the number of crystals you have in inventory. Then do a conditional check to see if it's 13, and if it is, do a SE, do something with the event's graphic, then make it disappear (by turning on a self switch, then adding a new page conditioned by that self switch with no graphic).


4. Yes, via scripts. Do a search, look at the Master Script List wiki (link pinned at the top of the script forums), and if you can't find a suitable one, make a new thread in the RGSS3 Script Requests forum. Though there are enough there that I'd be surprised if one of them doesn't do what you want.


5. Not that I'm aware of. You use animations for spells, not videos.

Yea, that was my bro who posted. I was working on the game. He didn't know I had previously posted. This info. Is just what we needed. Over all I think we're getting how to make a successful game. I just had one more question. I took a boat to an area to fight a boss. Then ported to another area. It's supposed to imply that the characters took the Ship back to a town, but obviously the boat is not there. Is there a way to get the ship to go where I want it too after the port? I tried a few things, but came up short.
