How do I have a separate sprite for climbing ladders? It is a two-tile high sprite. I am using the most up to date version of rpgmaker.
PLEASE HELP ME.

What I would do is just make an event at the bottom and top of your ladder that sets a movement route for the player, and set it to change the actor sprite, move up or down however many spaces, then change the sprite back to normal.

the size of a sprite doesn't matter as long as the structure of the sprite is correct. For example the PVGames-3D-sprites are usually three times the height but they are still one sprite only.

if that is not enough then you need to tell us what exactly your problem is, with screenshots or attaching an exmple sprite.

yeah so whenever I climb up a ladder, it changes the sprite but then stops moving and then is unmovable. please help with the right event to use. furthermore, should I make the ladder just an up-down passage tile or a ladder tile?

then show us your sprite and your event - we cannot find out what you did wrong without seeing what you did.

again - correctly done a ladder does not need up/down passability. moving is blocked by the impassable wall that the ladder goes up, so directional passability does not matter and should be allowed for all directions. and the ladder flag just tells the engine to always use the "north" direction of the sprite.

biggest problem with that is the lag and the fact that it is unconditional.

it exchanges the actor sprite on the entire map if going up or down, no matter if there is a ladder or not, and does so sixty times per second. I suggest adding a wait(10) at minimum to reduce lag.

This even has nothing to do with blocked movement, it can only slow down the entire game but not stiop movement. Whatever stopy your movement is something else on the map.

I think what you should do here is use PLAYER TOUCH events instead of a Parallel. On the top and bottom tile of the ladder, have the Player Touch events switch the player's sprite to the "climbing" sprite. On the tile directly above the top of the ladderand directly below the bottom of the ladder, have the Player Touch events switch the player's sprite back to the "normal" sprite. Make sure the player has to hit these on their way onto/off of the ladder.

furthermore, should I make the ladder just an up-down passage tile or a ladder tile?
Ideally, the tile should be marked as both of those.

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
