How do I...make it to where the player needs to manually select an item for something?

So up until this point, I've had instances where I could just let the game auto-matically detect the player as a key item to let them get to something...

But now I've reached a point where I think I need to start letting the player figure out what to use on something. (In my particular example, I want it to where the player finds a key, and has to "use" it in front of the correct locked door....somehow)
Problem is, I can't seem to figure out how to do that. Any tips/ideas pretty please? :3

I don't quite follow, but perhaps this will help

You said to use items, well you can change from video pics of switches to items and should do

In items, there's a place where you can enter common events:

You can make a common event that will check for the player's map position. Like,
if ($gamePlayer.x==a && $gamePlayer.y==b) then the door opens.

@Soulrender @Hyouryuu-Na you dont understand his question.
he means HOW to select an item for something through all his item,
when he has it or not have it.

above is a tiny event for something I need, you select item command and what item
you have in possession (regualar, weapon, armor, keyitem etc)
than a condition brance if it has the item, if it does, you lose the item (unless the scope
is none), that you can either use a variable if need, if not, leave that be, and turn on
a selfswitch ON, else, it doesn't work, wont take the item.

Maybe I did misunderstand but what I showed is how to manually go to the menu and use items. What you showed is how to use the select item command. Both get the job done

Ahh, sorry if I didn't clarify correctly haha.

I'm definitely gonna try all of your suggestions to see what fits the best!
What I was trying to say is like...I want there to be segments in my game where like, you need to go into your items inventory, and "use" the correct item while facing the proper event spot so that it triggers something.
(Veeeery important for a puzzle-solving based game)

I think it would be too easy if I left it to where...you find the item, and when you interact with the object, the game detects you have the object through a variable/switch, and lets you proceed.
I have a few parts in the game like that right now, and I was kind of looking to change that cause well, I wanna make it FEEL like you are making the progress manually, if that makes any sense lol

By the way, it'd be a pain to make a common event for all items so here's a new way. Use one common event for all items on all maps:

Edit:
Forgot to put in condition checks for directions. Use $gamePlayer.direction()
2-down, 8-up, 4-left, 6-right
