Hello All!

I've run into a bit of a puzzle. I'm trying to add Yanfly's Options Core plugin to my game, but when I run a playtest with it on, it doesn't work. I also get a notification telling me to come to these forums, but it doesn't lead me to or tell me which thread I'm supposed to go to. I've looked for this mystery thread, and if it is here, it's very good at hiding (or I'm very bad at looking).

I also recieve a notification regarding another plugin, Olivia State tooltip display, which says: "Cannot read property "SideBattleUI" of undefined". I have no idea what this means, nor why these two things are related, all I know is I don't get this notification if yanfly's options core is disabled. Don't you just love computer logic?

Lastly, I have found that I can get the options core plugin to function in my editor, but only on projects I have aquired from other creators who had this plugin implemented already. So, If nothing else, I know the problem isn't with my editor, but my game's files. Maybe you already knew that, but I'm not leaving out anything that might be relevant.

If anyone here can explain just what on earth is going on, and what hoops must be jumped through to finally get this plugin to dance, I'd appreciate it immensly. Thank you all, and have a pleasant day!

Not sure, but here are a couple of guesses~

What version of the editor are you using? You can check this via Help > About. In version 1.5.0 a new Plugin Manager was introduced, allowing for much more in-depth custom formatting of plugin parameters. If you are using an older version then you'll likely find Yanfly's Options Core extremely difficult to configure. :kaoswt:

The version of your project files is separate from the version of your editor. E.g. if you start a new project in v1.3.0, then update the editor to v1.5.2, the project will still be running on code v1.3.0. Discrepancies like this may cause strange errors. You can find release announcements, along with instructions for "updating old projects", over here: https://forums.rpgmakerweb.com/index.php?forums/rpg-maker-mv-software-updates.171/&order=post_date :kaopride:

I've checked, and it's 1.3.4. How do I make it be not that?

Edit: Whoops! Your link provides my answer! Sorry bout that. I was too hastey!

Ah, that explains it! Yep, just find the appropriate thread in the announcement forum~ :kaojoy:

I would suggest version 1.5.2 or 1.6.1. Remember to update your project files afterwards to match the editor version and it should all work out. :)

Note that if you're using any older plugins they may be incompatible with newer code versions. 1.3 is quite outdated, hopefully you don't have any issues there. :kaoswt:

So here's what I did, in order.

I got the update package for version 1.6.1. I made a backup of my game. I installed the update. I copied from the new data section of MV's files the sections that the relevant moderator post told me to, (index.html, package.json, and all of the rpg_ java files) and made sure not to edit anything else. I added yanfly's plugin that updates games to the editor version. Then I opened my game and ran a playtest.

What on earth does that mean? What did I do wrong?

update package for version 1.6.1
The update packages only work from the previous version. If you have to skip versions, you'll need the full installer or you'll be missing files from earlier updates

Also make sure you follow the update instructions from the 1.6.x update topic after using the full installer, because 1.6 contained more changes than previous versions.

Oh dear. Ooooooooh dear.

So, before I do something that makes this situation even more convoluted, let's just make sure I understand: In order to resolve this issue, what I need to do now is use the full installer found within the 1.6.1 moderator post? I think? Honestly, I'm not very smart :kaosigh:

yes - you might have to deinstall RMMV before using the full installer, but basically that's it.
Use the full installer (or a current trial download, they are the same as the trial contains everything and is unlocked to the full version by your key), then update your project again and it should work.

However, if your project contains older plugins those might have to be updated as well - that is the main reason why you need to make a backup of your project before updating: if there is no update for a plugin, then you might have to go back to the last version supported by that plugin.
For example some of the SRD plugins require 1.5.x and can't work with 1.6.x because somerandomdude left the community years ago and never updated his plugins to 1.6.x

However that is something that can only be learned by testing the update - and if you have such a plugin then you might have to go back to 1.5.2 (it's the difference between 1.5.x and 1.6.x that has the critical changes, and update from 1.3.4 to 1.5.2 should have lesser problems)

I thought it would work this time.
I downloaded the full installer. I ran the full installer. I didn't make a backup this time around, because why back up something that doesn't work when you have another backup that does. I made the changes with the program files. I tested.

ReferenceError

Maybe it's the plugins, I thought. I turned off every plugin that could be outdated. I tested.

I turned off all of the plugins for good measure. I tested.

makeVideoPlayableInline is not defined.

I'm about ready to go into the code and get rid of this "makeVideoPlayableInline" and whatever it is that's referencing it, or at least comment it out and see if that changes anything. I just wanted to add a flipping plugin, but no. Computers gotta computer.

So, what should I try next?

The makeVideoPlayableInline error just means you haven't updated your project files (in particular, index.html).
Well that's incredibly strange.
Because, well, I HAVE replaced the old index.html file with the version from 1.6.1.
I deleted the old one, I copied the new one, I pasted the new one, and "makeVideoPlayableInline" still pops up.
The only other changes I've made are for package.json, rpg.core, rpg.managers, rpg.objects, rpg.scenes, rpg.sprites and rpg.windows.
Did I really properly replace it? Is it possible that something else is causing this error?
Edit: I checked to see if a newly generated game would have these same issues, and it does not! So it would seem that I don't actually know how to "Update" these files properly!

EDIT EDIT: *The sound of a facepalm loud enough to shake the very planet*
I DIDN'T UPDATE THE "Libs" FOLDER! I'M A DUNCE! A CLOD!
On the bright side, everything works now. So that's a plus.
Thank you both for your generous help! I really appreciate it!

Oh whoops, I thought that error was exclusively related to index.html. :kaoswt: Good to hear you worked it out, happy RPG Making! :kaojoy:

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
