So I use FRAPs and it records my rpg games in 640x480 no matter what. I use Adobe Premiere Pro Cs 5.5 as my editor. I'm trying to make a quick trailer, but I can't get the quality of the recording right. Other youtubers manage to record their games in 720p, but I can only get 480 at the best, no matter what I've tried so far.

Things I've tried

Force exporting in 720p - > makes it blurry.

Uploaded 480 video - > Youtube makes it blurry.

Is there a special program everyone is using? I've spent the entire day googling and youtubing searches. Seems like no one has my problem. The only thing I get in searches are what recording device to use. Any suggestions?

Know that your game is on a specific resolution. If your game is on RMVXAce for instance, it's very probable that your game's resolution is 544x416. That means it's not 640x480, so anything forcing a 640x480 video size will make it blurry (and that's YT case).

One solution is to make your game screen size bigger. Using this line of code in Main, just before rgss_main:

Graphics.resize_screen(640,480)will make the screen size be the proper size.

Another thing you can do is editing the video, making it to leave the original video as is, but adding a black border around it if it doesn't fits the production size (which has to be 640x480). In Camtasia Studio there is a way to do this, and it's pretty probable that Adobe Premiere has one too.

Salut,

OZ

Personally I just use Bandicam to record in 1920X1200. :)

After uploading a video to Youtube, it looks fine. Fraps is a bad recording tool nowadays compared to Bandicam.

Checking out Bandicam now, sounds good. Does it really work as well as they say?

Here's a good list -

  • Fraps (Not an option)
  • BandiCam (Stated Above)
  • Hyper Cam 2 (Must try and is 720p)
Others are just another simple ones... you can also go for Hyper Cam 3 but it is not free and the non free version shows a banner at the top left

I used to use Fraps but nowadays I use Hypercam2 (coz it has a free version)... and it seems to work fine on my vids... even editing to 720p doesn't seem to do a visible stretching... I usually edit the video in a smaller size and export in raw avi, then change to 720p during compression using AVS converter...

Also, I'm not sure if this is the case but I think YT "downgrades" vids for free users...

I added this in, but I noticed an issue; when the battle starts, the battle initiation screen effect (where the screen swirls a bit and changes the screen to the battle) is messed up. It is tiled, and you notice the additional tiles on the bottom and sides.

Yeah, that's something else you'll have to adjust. The default artwork like the battle transition is still the original 544 x 416 resolution, so that's what the game displays. It doesn't do any scaling. You'll need a 640 x 480 image. Same goes for the battlebacks, the title screens, etc.

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
