lets say that I created a message box in gimp and want to use this as my message box image in rpg Maker xp, what are the steps to import it and select it under settings?

Terribly sorry if this is the wrong area to ask in, I didn’t know where I was allowed to ask this question in...

    IIRC, this should work:

Put your custom message box in Graphics/Pictures folder, set the window to be transparent on your message event command, and show the picture before the message event command.

The show image solution isn't ideal, but it can work. It's just a lot a tedious work repeating the same thing for every event (might want to call a common event for that).

The ideal solution would be a script that actually changes the window for a sprite. The difference with the previous method is that you won't have to bother inserting the image every time you want to display an image, it's going to be done automatically for you. Now, you still have to find a script that does that. XP is old, and there are tons of script, so it's just question of digging and searching.

I don't really research other people's scripts and plugins since I code everything myself. But I'm sure it's fairly easy to find, just type something like "RPG Maker XP script message sprite".

Using the 'Change Text Option' to set a transparent messagebox while using Show Picture to display an artful background is a tried and true option, even since RPGMaker 2000.

However, I personally haven't seen any custom script to render the image for a background. *Shrugs*
