Do you have a specific method of promoting toppings that feature your projects? That means views and replies.

Do you count on the social connections you make by helping and being helped by people in the community.
Do you actively PM people to check your mixtape project?

Do you ask real life friends to write some reviews?

I don't ask for personal advice, I want to make a conversation where people analyze their process.

Also, since this is the lounge and things are not so official... *takes off shoes*

"Hi."

Do not PM people here asking them to check your topic/project. That's considered spam and we don't like people doing it.

The better known you are in the forum, I think the more views you'll get, and the more comments. But be known for good reasons.

Thanks for the input, Shaz. It wasn't really a matter of asking for advice, just a topic opener so people can talk about their process.

Top secret method of becoming popular and getting views. Be warned that if you open this spoiler your life will be forever changed.

This is just a personal advice.

Be active beyond your own project. :) Always be friendly, humble and give appropriate feedback to others. I notice that the less your trying to get popular the quicker you will get known. It's because people are attracted to those who are just simply themselves and give their own time and effort to the community. The more known you will be , the more people will check out your projects and be ready to give you feedback just like you gave them. It's all about helping each other out and building a solid foundation between you and your audience. :)

Don't ask for attention, it will come in time and thats all right, all worth while things require patience.

And here is a cute kitty, because why not?

btw, I was joking about changing your life hahaha ;D

There was this one person in my brother's Minecraft server that kept PMing people (even the admins) to check out their youtube channel.

Let's just say it didn't work well.

Be nice, active, help a few people if you can. (but don't force it)

If you have a project demo or do some kind of service (playtesting, artwork, etc.), you can put it in your forum signature.

Liking other people's posts can probably get you a few Likes back, and future Likes. (which imo isn't very meaningful, I dislike Facebook)

Finally, being in the "inner circle" is not always great.

@Susan

You can never go wrong with cuteness, cats and cookies, these are three fundamental life driven forces that will always bring more people. ;D Cookies save LIVES!

@Kanax: Learned well you have, young padawan.

But seriously, I cannot blame you. We invest lots of time in our games. It's normal to want to see people playing/commenting on them.

Graphics attract people too. Your signature is gorgeous. It made me click right away. If I'm bored I might give your game DEMO a try. It's just I'm kinda lazy in writing long reviews, I might just point out little things I enjoyed/bothered me.

Edit: My bad, I misinterpreted >o<

What do I do? Publish it on every promising indie games sites out there and ask for LPs/reviews :p

@Kyuukon Thank you! But uhhh... I REALLY wasn't asking for advice :p That's why I came to the General Lounge. I was going more for a "Well in my case, I do this and that" topic.
Alas, it failed!

Yeah, it kind of sounded like you were asking for advice :)

Maybe edit your first post and state what YOU do, instead of just asking other people what THEY do, and it might come across more as a discussion topic.

@Shaz Good point! But I'm a clueless individual and I don't have a process. Monkey see, monkey do.

@Bukarett It took me 2 hours and 20 minutes to reply after you posted. 2 hours and 10 minutes of that time were spent into searching the pirate photo. Oh, the frustration.

@Kanax:  And here I was, knowing immediately what the image was from.  I'm not sure how to feel.

I guess for attracting views for any project I do, no matter what platform would be;

1.  Making use of real-life relations (Friends and similar - if they like it, they'll probably tell someone else about it.  At least I hope they would.)\

2.  Online relations.  Just a little side-remark on the game when it seems relevant.

Ah, yeah.  That's about all I do.

@Rumanshi You actually have real-life relations with the same peculiar interests, huh. I'm kinda envious!

@Kanax It does happen when you're forced to be around a bunch of similar aged people...  ( :p )

If I want to get a following I just post something new on a consistent basis, it works really well.  Usually though, I don't actively try for a following.  They just tend to happen.  (Still wondering how I'm so popular here.)

Probably because your not trying to be popular

In my case all I did was post the game demo and waited. Then again, I figure the game is probably 1.5 - 2 years away from a full release that I have time for people to find it and post feedback. Even if only 3 - 5 people look at it and give me feedback, that's still more helpful than 0.

Maybe when it gets closer to full release I'll try to more actively promote it. Right now I figure the full release is so far off I'll lose any interest I generate with a promotion attempt.

As with anything in life and as Bukarett stated, it's all about being yourself. Help others out if they have questions, give your honest feedback in project threads, contribute to any thread I guess if it catches your attention. I was browsing through the off topic and general discussion section just now and there's some really interesting threads out there. As well as projects and beginning developers that could really use some feedback on their projects. I was lucky to get some very helpful and descriptive feedback on my project thread and these comments really helped me to see what my game was lacking, what can be improved, what was good, what was bad. It's all about building a connection with others and just being genuine  :) . That's one thing I love about this community, everyone here is really down to earth. :)   :rock-right:

You can always come up with something that's fresh. Not really sure what specifically that is but you can probably try a lot of things and just 1 of them could be that. Good luck.

so hopefully tomorrow i get to go home from the hospital i've been here for 5 days already and it's driving me mad. I miss my family like crazy but at least I get to use my own toiletries and my own clothes. My mom is coming to visit soon i can't wait to see her cause i miss her the most. :kaojoy:
Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
