Hi there. I created a sprite using http://www.geocities.jp/kurororo4/looseleaf/ but when I go ahead and use him in VX Ace it looks a little something like this:

Also when he moves, he moves quite slowly and does not feel free flowing at all. Is there any way to change this?

Those sprites are created for XP and therefore have 4 images across and 4 down. In order to use it, you need to open in a progam such as Photoshop or Gimp and crop off one column (the left I believe).

You also need to make sure that it is named properly with a $ at the beginning of the file name when you import it into Ace (though by your picture, I think you probably have that, I would just double check if I were you).

I did what you said but now whenever the sprite walks either left or right, his feet magically appear above his head. How should I edit this in photoshop so that everything lines up well?

Can you post a pic of your sprite as you have it now?

Here you go. What happens when you have put the $ in front of it, is that Ace takes the image and divides it into 3 columns and 4 rows, based on the size of the whole sheet. The problem with your image is that you just had a few extra rows of pixels at the top and bottom and and extra column of pixels at the side. So it wasn't dividing it based on where the character actually was, but the sheet size and that is why it was dividing it by cutting his feet off. I hope that made since.

Anyway, fixed it real quick and also took out some stray white pixels that were showing. Here you go.

Thank you so much, I'll be sure to use this as the template for my future characters too. Awesome! :) Now I just need to find a way to make the characters walk more smoothly. So it does not appear they are moving from square to square

I think that what you're talking about is called Pixel Movement.

I havent used any scripts for it myself yet, though I'm planning to use the Victor Engine one(No links yet, his website is down, he appears to be in the process of making a new one though.  If I remember, I'll come back and edit the links here)

Otherwise, you can probably find something that works just looking around.

Because The Fury from Metal Gear Solid 3 is one of my favorite bosses of all time, I felt the need to make a somewhat similar boss for my own game. taking cues from both the Fury and another awesome astronaut boss, Captain Vladimir from No More Heroes 2.
RE4make almost had me with their demo until I got to the dog stuck in a bear trap and realized that he was dead and could no longer be saved. Just not the kind of reimagining I'm interested in.
