Hello guys! I've been making game for quite a while and this is something I just noticed.

How many state an actor can have in a battle? Is it infinite or limited?

If it is limited, I'd like to adjust the limit so that it is infinite because it's very important for the consistency in my game.

I'm using Yanfly Battle Engine with the popup system and what not, then I realize that the icons are being replaced by the newly inflicted state after it reached 4 icons.

Does that mean an actor can only have 4 states inflicted at a time? (I hope it's not because it would've sucked a lot)

I don't mind if the it only displays 4 icons but I want the state to be active despite not being shown on the actor's face.

Please answer, I'm so confused right now.. Thx

RMMV
I don't know if there is a limit to the number of states - there definately is a limit to the display, but you can also have more states applied than will be displayed.

It might not be infinite, but I never have heard of a case where the states didn't get added.

I hope you're right... It's kinda hard and time consuming to test it though...

I've tinkered with the code a little, and there is nothing in it to enforce a limit. So the only limit that could exist is if you have so many states that you run out of memory. And I really doubt 999 states could do that somehow.

Now a script could edit the code to add a limit though, but I've heard of none that did that unless it was specially designed for that purpose.

Actually I am glad that it has no limit, I was just afraid that it does

Hello Kevin.

I wanna share my test with you even if I dont know if you're still  about your question.

I was looking for states limitations then I found your post.

Well I tried something that can make me pretty sure the limite is big.

Look at this picture:

- I took a free variable of my project : v[100]

- Then made 200 same (copy/paste) States : [id] 21->221

- Started a loop with a starting  variable set to 21 (the 1st of the 221 states).

- A little script call that add a state ID is given by v[100] += 1 at each loop

that can quickly add states to the actor.

- Finaly I stop the add states with condition.

Sorry if I am not clear, but, I can be sure at least 200 states can stick at the same time.

The most painfull part was copy/past states, but when I tried it as well in troop it was

STATES POPS UP FESTIVAL AND IT MADE MY DAY :o

States are saved in an array, so as long as the ruby array can take it, you can add more and more and more states. IDK what's the limit of elements of Ruby arrays but the limit of how many states you can put is probably either the Max limit of elements of a ruby array, or if your computer's memory gets all taken up before reaching the max elements. XD

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
