Hello guys!

I'm planning to offer non-official resource packs made by myself. They will be composed of 8 characters each. Every purchase would allow commercial licensing at no additional cost.

I have the mechanics very well defined myself. But I'm missing a fundamental aspect because I do not wish to arbitrarily define it on my own.

Given the above mentioned, how much would you say it's an acceptable price for a resource pack of 8 characters with commercial availability?

Please vote on the poll and if you feel there is something that should be added, by all means expand on it here as well.

Well, I think $5 is enough. But that's just my opinion.

What's in the resource pack?  Walking sprite?  Face?  How many expressions?  Anything else?

Do you have a sample of what would be included for a single character, and we can just x8?

Also, what style - XP, VX/Ace, MV?

VX/Ace style. Only 8 characters, that's all. 8 characters with walking animations. I don't actually have samples at this moment. But the first I have will be modern/contemporary professions. 4 professions (male and female).

There will be samples of the idle front view for reference.

If the strategy is successful I might also do MV packs. They'd keep the price tag of what I settle on for VX/Ace probably, even if they might take a little more effort.

@Skyninja: all opinions are welcome :D

I would say it depends on if the sprites are 100% original or if you're using some kind of RTP template (although, can you even sell stuff that's been derived from the RTP? I have no clue about the fine print on that). And personally I think it'd be a better idea to release one large pack rather than a bunch of separate small packs. More content = people more inclined to purchase. Alternatively you could do the small packs and then combine them into a big pack at the end, I guess?

So they don't come with faces?  I probably wouldn't pay anything for a pack of just 8 character sprites, to be honest.  For a few dozen, I might be willing to pay up to $10.

If it's just walking sprites I say $7-$8. If you add down sprites I would gladly pay $12 for it. You don't know how much time and effort you save us if you add down sprites to the resource packs. I feel that this is the only downside to the resource packs in the store that sell sprites.

there are about a million sprites on this site free for commercial releases, so the real question is what is it that sets yours apart?  Most people who are willing to pay for sprites want custom.  I'm not sure what kind of sales you're going to have when for just a few more dollars they can buy one of the store packs with tilesets and all kinds of goodies.

I'd think if you want to do this, I'd lean more towards unique sprites, monsters, animals, etc.  Possibly unique animations.

Would need to see a sample.

If I really like them, 8 characters maybe ~$15?

Throw in some 8-dir sprites for all of them, maybe ~$30?

Personally I would go for "full" sets for a single character.

Like map sprites, battler sprites, portraits. I prefer those over just small sprites or faces.

For example with kaduki sprites, he had everything everything.

Those prices assume I am using them for main actors.

If it's just for an NPC or something and it fit my style, I might not be willing to invest as much and may look for alternatives.

I'd say around 4 to 10.

That said, take into account that I'm kind of a cheapskate.

Still, I feel like what would really make a difference is the content. 8 characters isn't particularly descriptive, which is why I went with such a wide price range. If they feel unique, I wouldn't mind going for the big numbers, but if they are just like every other charset obtainable for free by just looking it up in google images, I don't think I would even bother paying.

So yeah, the big question is what do these characters have to make "me" drop any money on them?

Exactly.

Also, if you don't include faces... I'd say 5-6$

When comparing to the prices of resource packs here in RMW store, I had to select $4 or below. Mainly because 8 characters with just walking animation and nothing else isn't much at all, not to mention they aren't exclusive to the person buying them. Exclusivity is a big deal. Commercial devs especially want their games to stand out from the rest, so they're not as likely to spend money on something that isn't exclusive, unless it's very cheap. Of course for an exclusive set of 8 characters, all those prices would be too low. Exclusivity does ramp up the prices.

I don't spend more than US$10 on game, unless it is very good.

That is just me, though.

Please note that this thread is about the price for resources.  It is not about the price for games, so please do not derail it.

thanks
