How much money have you spent on your projects?

I used to assume something like 99% of the rpgmaker community only bought the client and hungrily sought out free resources, but it seems there's quite a few people dropping a lot of money into their work. I've spent only about $150 in packs and script commissions justifying it as the amount of an MMO subscription. Was completely surprised that some creators spent thousands on tiles, sprites animation, custom engines, etc.

How much have you been willing to spend for your hobby/work? And to commercial developers using the RM development software, do you expect to break even, make a proft, or even expect a loss just to get your game out?

In the 14 years I've been working on Tundra, I've arguably spent about $150 on it (the price of buying VX Ace and I think I bought a copy of VX). That said, I've made about $2000 from scripting commissions so it was a pretty good investment!

I've only spent $30 so far (got ace on sale on steam  :D ). I'm really hoping I don't spend too much more. I'm pretty cheap :p

$530 on music or something like that and whatever the cost of DS and DS+ is. and $90 on editting. I won the program in a contest so yeah. I've made way more off commissions then I've spent on a game. (We'll see if taking AwaF to the next level changes that or not)

I've made most of my materials but when you consider how much all the software and hardware I've bought in the last few years to produce my materials is, ehh. Yeah, you can imagine. Couple thousand on all software, easily.

I've bought several tile sets and had some small things made, such as sprites. But I don't think I've spent more than $200 on any of that.

I don't intend to sell my games but it doesn't really bother me that I won't make much of that money back. And making my materials in itself is a great source of enjoyment.

Most people spend money on their hobbies with no intention of monetary gain. If I were to somehow made a dollar I did better than I intended.

several hundred $ for Ace plus resource packs plus script commissions - but if you count the entire hobby project (which Ace is only part of), then several thousands - for example the picture of my world alone was a commission of 200€...

I'm *very* careful with how much I spend on a game.

All my games have been profitable.

Only $30 or so? Eh I'm new, I'm soloing and I'm not looking for profit.

I bought the Humble Bundle package at about 15 or 25 dollars? The price that gave me everything. And I ended up buying three music packs when they were on sale.

This is nothing but a hobby of me, and personally if I buy a few games on steam or a couple of DLC's for rpg maker, it's about the same price, so it makes little difference for me.

I don't expect to earn anything from my hobby, the moment I expect that, it's no longer a hobby, I think.

over $1500 on the low ball.

all the rpg makers on here (with ace pre-order), plus VXAce CD-rom, and steam, over 25 resource packs, and spent at least $700 comissioning work. Over $1000 more if you count the money spent on music writing software (not including the vocaloids, at another $1000+)

Exactly $1.  Got the program from the Humble Bundle promotion a year or so back.  Haven't spent a dime since.  I guess *someone* in this thread has to be the cheapskate. BD

Eheheheh...I'm part of your theoretical 99%...but mostly it's because I never seem to learn that I need to spend my money on my project and instead use it up for games under the pretense of it all being "research material"...Atlus and NIS games mostly.

I really need to learn one of these days, otherwise nothing will ever get done.

so hopefully tomorrow i get to go home from the hospital i've been here for 5 days already and it's driving me mad. I miss my family like crazy but at least I get to use my own toiletries and my own clothes. My mom is coming to visit soon i can't wait to see her cause i miss her the most. :kaojoy:
Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
