How much money have you spent on your projects?

The fact you guys get taxed on donations is bs.  If that was here, an you can prove it is not real 'income' then you dont get taxed.  Like, lotto wins - tax free.

I feel for you bro (hug)...

I'd be happy to work with 50K extra money even if I had to give 25K to taxes... *shrugs*

As would anyone I think.  Unfortunately, not everyone gets the chance. It sucks, but not much can be done during the aftermath :)

Have you ever tried to do a kickstarter / similar thing for any of your games?

I never had to ask myself the question since Kickstarter is not available in my country...

Maybe you should try and source an alternative crowd funding source. There are many people out there that love to contribute to other peoples projects, and the fact you have completed so many should be enough to show you can do it. :)

I think you could be fairly successful if you pursued such a route :D

Kickstarter is not the only website for funding such projects.  There are others, such as IndieGogo.  :)

Errr IndieGogo is to KS what Desura is to Steam, if you see what I mean...  :p

Nu-uh, no. Absolutely not a single god damned piece of half a britton penny.

And may the devil come take me if I ever think of spending the money I don't have on anything non essential.

Srsly, though. I try to keep it free since the money I can spend is rather limited and it just keeps getting even more limited. There are many sites (and people) giving free BGS and BGM, which is my main focus while looking for resources, but finding SE and similar sound samples for free and without royalties...that's the definition of a bother.

Also, I'd invest if I knew I'm going to recover that investment, but since I've got no intention of releasing an RPGM game comercially, take a guess what happens.

Probably about $1500 - $2000 right now, and I figure I'll hit $5,000 before I'm done. But, I don't mind, as I'm making the game I wanted to make for over 20 years. I even figure there is a chance I'll take a loss in this game (as I do plan to sell it), but personally, if that happens, it happens.

Way I look at it, make the game you want to make. If it happens to turn a profit, great. Consumers can tell when the developer just wanted a quick $$$ and when they care about the game, and I hope the care will (in the end) show in mine.

Nothing beyond the cost of the engine for me.  I'm not against it by any means, but doing things myself is the entire point of it.  I'll probably end up hiring people for music at some point.  I have an interest but it's one of the few artistic pursuits I have absolutely no skill in.  I may possibly buy scripts too, though that may not be necessary if I get certain family members interested in my projects.

Now to be honest I have bought a few art packs, but really for my own amusement, I have no intention of using them to make a game.  I like looking at them.  I tell myself it's for business since seeing how other people put together packs is helpful in figuring out what the customer expects but that's only so I don't feel guilty about it.

so hopefully tomorrow i get to go home from the hospital i've been here for 5 days already and it's driving me mad. I miss my family like crazy but at least I get to use my own toiletries and my own clothes. My mom is coming to visit soon i can't wait to see her cause i miss her the most. :kaojoy:
Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
