ok so heres what i want to happen (with colors as examples)

    -player's sprite is orange,
-player walks into a different room and the sprite becomes blue,
-player walks out of the room and sprite reverts to orange,

also just so were clear, by player i mean the person you control, the sprite that moves by you pressing the arrow keys or wasd

If the room is it's own map, have an autorun event and all exit events change the first actor graphics by event command "change actor graphics".

If the room is part of a map and not a different map, you'll need two events at any entry or exit.
The outer event changes the actor to blue with the change actor graphics command and then uses a set move route to move the player into the room (to bypass the inner event).
The inner event does the same only changing sprite back and moving the player over the trigger of the outer event.

If you have problems eventing in general then follow the link to the starting point in my signature and work through the tutorials on eventing to learn how to use the commands I mentioned above.

You can use the Change Actor Image command in the event tabs after the transfer.

You could also use a Change Graphic/Sprite command in a Set Move Route. I've discovered (in MV) that if you do it that way, when you change maps it reverts to the default image. So if it works the same way in Ace, you just need the command to change to blue on entering the room, and not another to revert to orange when leaving the room.
