RPG Maker Forums

Today I'd like to ask the community for advice on how to make sure that there is life after dying in a random encounter.

I already know that Makers can set a series of events after a programmed battle via events. I have yet to find out, however, how to make sure that the game does not end when you get defeated in a random encounter.
This often results in being able to try again in the case of a boss battle or a mandatory regular battle (e.g. a regular monster blocking access to the next area), but getting a Game Over if you are killed by the random-est of random monsters.
Not pretty.

So, the main idea is this:
- the Hero can continue the game if you lose the battle. BUT you are moved back to a safe area.
- there may be checkpoints, so you don't have to start your journey from square one.

I would prefer a solution that does not involve scripting. However, I realise that some features REQUIRE it. As always, ANY and ALL advice is welcome.

Thank you for your time!

Our latest feature is an interview with... me?!

People4_2 (Capelet off and on) added!

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
Can someone recommend some fun story-heavy RPGs to me? Coming up with good gameplay is a nightmare! I was thinking of making some gameplay platforming-based, but that doesn't work well in RPG form*. I also was thinking of removing battles, but that would be too much like OneShot. I don't even know how to make good puzzles!
