How to create a poison effect?

Hello guys I am new around here, and I am trying creating my own RPG using RPG Maker MV. I want to make a poison effect that you get effected white if you fight against a rat. But I don't know how to do that would need help.

poison is just a State with ex-param HP regen having a negative number.
the database should have a poison state made by default.
for the rat it would just be a skill it can use that has add state poison X% in the skill's effects section,
where X is the % chance to apply the poison state with that skill.

the default engine can only do Damage over Time as a % of their max hp.
to have formula or flat amount DoT you would need plugins.

You can assign a trait to your Rat enemy to give the "Poison" state with attacks.

The Traits window is located on the far right, just above the Notes field. Click on an empty row, then tab over to the Attack tab. You can select "Attack State" and below that, the percentage. (I think Poison is pre-built into the game already, so just pick it from the list). The percentage will determine the chance the state will be be activated. 100% means that every time it attacks, it will give the poison state to the player.

using attack state trait still requires the skill to have effects "add state: normal attack X%"
this method the skill effects should be 100% while the rat's attack state trait is the % chance to apply the state.
this basically just allows the same skill to be used by other creatures and actors that have different state effects from traits. (then only need to worry about the skill's name being appropriate ie. rat uses Bite but a giant bee would basically copy/paste the skill to rename it to Sting)

Oof, this "side project" of mine is starting to get as complex as a VS plugin, at least as far as plugin parameters are concerned. I think I now understand why a plugin like this doesn't already exist(that I know of). Learning a lot while trying to make it work though!
Had apparently not checked Itch for 3 months, kind of forgot I had an account rofl.
One side of me is: "lineart is so awful", the other side is just: "huh, decent" :kaoswt2:
