Okay, first of all, sorry if this is in the wrong place. I am very knew to RPG Maker VX Ace!

So what I want is that when I talk to this specific Non-Playable character, the dialogue starts, and then, he moves around to his specified route. So far, that has worked out. But! Here is my issue. When I have finished talking to him for the FIRST time, then I got talk to him for the SECOND time, the whole EVENT starts over again, he goes around to the specified route every time I use the Action Button (In-Game SPACE or ENTER). So I want to be able to start the event for the first time (where he talks then does his route) then, every other time, throughout the rest of the game, he just walks around at random, and everytime I go to talk to him, he says something else (and doesn't do his whole route again).

I hope this makes sense...

Thanks for all of the help I can get! Help is GREATLY appreciated. :)

And again, I am sorry if I posted this in the wrong section.

You should read up on switches and variables (self-switches). Search for it here on the forum and you will find guides on how they function, when you learn how the switches work you will be able to work out this trouble without any issues :)

It's important that you learn about these functions on your own since they are vital in making a game.

You can also look up Andar's beginner tutorial, it has a lot of great tips for people that just started out with the rpg maker.

You can find it here:

Best of luck :)

You need to create a second page with whatever you want to happen after the first time on it. At the end of the first page, trigger Self-Switch A (or whatever self-switch) and then on the second page set it's condition to the same self-switch. If you want the event to disappear, then leave the graphic on the second page blank and put nothing in the event commands.

I've moved this thread to Ace support. Please be sure to post your threads in the correct forum next time. Thank you.

As people have said, read up on switches and event pages; it's how you get events to do different things after a certain action has been done.

You can do what Mlogan said with regular switches to, or you an do it with variables. If you want the npc to say multiple different thing use a variable. every time he is done talking and 1 to that variable, thank make an next page that has the next amount of that same variable. hope you could undestn dwhat I said I am not very good at saying what I am thinking.

Thanks for the help everyone who answered! :)

I think that I have a better understanding of switches and events.

I'm pretty good at making maps, cause that is easy (to me anyways) but this whole event stuff is hard at first (for me)

Again, thanks for the help! :)

You can use switches and variables, but if everything is contained in the one event, there's not really need to do so, as it will just take up a switch or variable spot unnecessarily. Personally, I would only use a regular switch if it needed to be triggered by another event (therefore self-switches would not work) and variables only if I wanted the NPC to say a random something.

Okay, maybe not the only time I'd use a switch, but you can avoid taking up a switch space if you just stop and think about what you really need to accomplish.

Back in action to develop the indie game that has been long overdue... Final Fallacy. A game that keeps on giving! The development never ends as the developer thinks to be the smart cookie by coming back and beginning by saying... "Oh bother, this indie game has been long overdue..." How could one resist such? No-one c
So I was playing with filters and this looked interesting...

Versus the normal look...

Kind of gives a very different feel. :LZSexcite:
To whom ever person or persons who re-did the DS/DS+ asset packs for MV (as in, they are all 48x48, and not just x2 the pixel scale) .... THANK-YOU!!!!!!!!! XwwwwX
