yep titles my question is that actually a thing you can do though i have tried making the width and height bigger on pictures but doing that just makes the picture not fit into the screen i wanted it so when you beat the game im making 3 pictures play out like a story book basically as a substitute for having a animation

Excuse me if this is rude, but uh, can't you just go into Photoshop and scale your picture to the appropriate screen size?

So it's possible to set the width and height to match your screen pretty closely...

You probably don't want to do that. Even if you get the size right, the whole resizing process tends to make pictures look less good.

Your best bet is to use an image editor (GIMP is nice, but Paint would be good enough) to make the image the exact size of your window in pixels. Then you can just display it at top-left 0,0 and sit in awe of your image editing skills.

You don't want the resolution of your monitor, but of your game. I think the default is 816x624 but you might double check.

if you resized your picture in an image editor and the picture in your game is still showing as the same size, then you didn't overwrite the old file with the new. Are you sure you saved it as .png and not gimp's format? is it in the right folder? If your scaling is set to 100%, the editor shows 1 to 1 the size of whatever image you give it, so an image the same size as the game's screen size will definitely cover the whole screen and not one pixel more or less.

I know these are all simple things for experienced users, but working on this Game Jam I have officially learned how to:
  • Use my own title screen image
  • Use scrolling text
  • Fade in a picture
  • Use any image for the Face in a dialog box
Probably silly for many people, but observable progress for me!
So i was looking at Lufia The Legend Returns Mapping Style in GBC. the Players view is a 9x9 square. MV has a more modern pixel art. As long as the environment is comprehensible, this mapping style is still good.
