Hi All

This is my first post here, so apologies if it is the wrong place.

I am brand new to VX Ace, although I have previously made RPG'ers in the old NWN Aurora toolest.

I am struggling with a number of issues at the moment, but am working through them. However, I am trying to create a sandbox style world, without a linear storyline. Instead, the Main Character is classless and can choose where he goes and when.

Naturally they are then cut scenes, and a number of quests which lead to enhanced equipment to aid the main quest. To help the player, I want to create a "Quest Journal" that is accessible from the screen that comes up when I press "Esc" during gameplay (the one that has formation etc).

I want the "journal" to have two pages. One for active quests (which will give directions and information on how to complete them" and one for completed quests (again, with a little info as to what has happened).

Is there anyway to do this? Or is there a Quest Wizard that I am missing?

Cheers

There isn't really a quest wizard, but it's possible to create something like this. It could be tackled via events, but I think a script might be more efficient.

I would, personally, suggest using Modern Algebra's quest journal script. It requires a bit of setup and learning how to use it, but it has excellent instructions at the beginning of the script that explain the process. As long as you take the time to read through the instructions, you shouldn't have trouble following along. :)

Well you could use a script, there has to be atleast 5-12 scripts out there that can be used as such.

However I don't see why you can't make a quest journal just through eventing.

First step make every quest turn on a switch, then It's just a matter of condition braches, and show texts.

If you go the eventing route, I alse suggest you use Yanfly's Message script to customize text boxes.

If you want to create a journal that stands in a single location, you can simply make an event that shows different text based upon a variable or switch triggered in the game.

You could always make a item, and tie it to a common event if you want to beable to view it any time.

Goddess no, just use the script...

You type in the quest names, objectives, and descriptions, and they show up in the players menu.

It's about as no fuss, no muss as it gets.

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
