Yes you do, in something like GIMP, Photoshop, or other image program.  However, I think if you hunt through the Resources section of the forum, there are several there.  Even if they are not quite what you are looking for, they will give you a good idea of how to go about it.

I'm pretty sure someone has edits of the beds in the resource forum. All you need is to have the top of the bed in a spritesheet, then use this as an event graphic and put it above the player, so the player can walk behind it, giving the illusion the player is in the bed covered by a blanket.

Moving this to resource request

Here are the default beds with their tops cut off.

Example:

(I made a slight edit to close Eric's eyes)

If your going to use this with NPC events often I'd suggest making a second set of sprites (the default sprite-sheet format has room for 4x2 sets) and placing the bed-without-a-top image above into a layer in your image editor and placing it atop the NPC sprite, this also gives you the option of having the sleeping character turn to 'look' at you if you try to talk to them.

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
How many parameters is 'too many'??
