How to make BGM and BGS carry over into battle?

My game's random encounters don't have their own battle themes. Instead, the BGM and BGS that were playing on the map will keep playing throughout and after the fight, never stopping. Note, however, that I only want this to happen when the battle music is set to (None). If there's a song selected for battle, then only the BGS should carry over.

This sounds like the kind of thing that may need a plugin, but it also sounds like the kind of thing that could be taken care of quickly just by editing the default json files.

I can tell you that if the Battle BGM is the same as the currently playing BGM while on the map, the music will not change at all and will continue playing battle.

That said, what you would have to do is set up an event on each map to change Battle BGM to whatever is playing on the map.  If they are the same, then the music will

carry over uninterupted for each battle.

I'm not sure if it works the same for BGS.

Thanks. I tried that and the BGM carried through everything.

Now I just have to figure out how to make BGS do the same thing.

I'm not sure how your battles work exactly.  But if the BGS isn't carrying through you might want to try just adding the BGS at the start of your battle via your Battle Event.

That's what I do.

In the third Tab in your Event Commands, under 'System Settings' you can find 'Change Battle BGM...'. In this command you have to set the BGM to the one already playing, then the music will carry over :)

Does this work for the BGS as well?

Because I think Dachimotsu was having issues with the BGS not the BGM.

What I ended up having to do was go to the Audio & Video section and create a fairly long event process to play the correct BGS based on the current time of day and weather effects I had going on before the battle began.

You are right, Berylstone. I totally misread that one! Guess it's time to take a little break. Sorry for the false information!

It is still useful information so nothing to be sorry for.  I never considered using the Change Battle BGM option to just copy the current song and keep it playing uninterrupted.  I always relied on the Audio and Video options.

That's why I was really asking about it to be honest.  I was actually curious if that method worked for the BGS as well.

I plan on giving this method a spin and see if I like it better for my BGMs in any case.  Might save me the trouble of having to save the song and then replay it.

Aww. I got five emails saying this topic had been replied to, thinking an answer would be here.

In any case, it's most likely a json file that keeps BGS and Weather Effects from playing in-battle. If someone could just tell us where it is and what to change, that'd be great.

You'll need a plugin for weather effects to work during battle.

Tsukihime has written an excellent one.  One moment and I'll get you the link.

You should be able to play a BGS during battle though without a plugin.  It allows me to do it anyway.

Just go to your Battle Event and add Play BGS into your contents under the Audio & Video section in page 2 your event commands.  If that doesn't work all I can guess is the conditions on your event page are set up to where it's not reading during battle.

Don't you have to pay to use Hime's plugins in commerical games? I read her ToS, and they say you have to purchase a license from her.

I'm making this game commercial specifically because I have no money. Maybe once the demo is ready, I'll make a kickstarter.

Maybe.  I do know she asked that people contact her before using her Plugin commercially but I'm not certain as to her terms or what all is involved.

Unfortunately you can't enable weather effects during battle though without using a plugin.  There may be some other plugins out there that accomplish this and don't require a license.  But her's is the only one I'm aware of so I won't be much help to you further if you are unable to use her plugin.  Sorry. :(
