Hi, I've got 2 questions and I'm new to RPG Maker so these are kind of basic.  I want to know how to make custom graphics for events work.  I want to make an ice block in one event that has a graphic I uploaded of size 64x96, but when I go to select it it only lets me select a tiny part of the image (like 2x10 or something).  Even with every combination of $ and ! in front of the file it still does not let me select the entire image, how do I tell the program to let me select the full image of a custom size?

Secondly, I recently purchased the pro version of vx ace but I still have the Lite version as well.  For several reasons (one being this: not sure if this is the cause but everyone I see who has the pro version has blue dots with their preset files and all mine are still red like the lite version) I want to get rid of the lite version and just have the pro. However I'm afraid uninstalling it will mess up my pro version since it seems to me they have some shared files and i might not be able to fix it properly.  Will uninstalling the lite version not effect the pro version in any way?

Thanks.

Show us the image.

The help file (F1 in the editor) describes the layout of characters.

Did you save it in the Characters folder or in the Tilesets folder? It should be in the Characters folder. And if your individual sprite is 64x96, then your spritesheet should be 192x384 with a $ at the start of the name, or 768x768 with no $ at the start of the name.

They probably share the RTP files. But the red dots are only if you import the graphics - ie, copy them into your project's folders. You should be able to uninstall Lite without any trouble. If it causes issues, just reinstall the full, paid for version again. The RTP is not normally saved in the same place as the engine, so at worst, if Lite uninstalls the RTP, you would just need to install that again. Also, your project files should not be saved either where the RTP is saved OR where the engine is installed. Your projects should have their own folders somewhere completely different. This means you should be able to uninstall both of them without losing your projects.

1) then you did something wrong, because $ is the letter that tells the engine your file is a single sprite with 3x4 pictures. Without the $, the engine assumes 4x2 sprites of 3x4 pictures each (for a total of 12x8 pictures).

If that doesn't help, attach your sprite and we can see if there is a formatting problem in the pictures themselves.

2) uninstalling Lite will not affect the full version, but it won't change your project to full either. Each project gets its resources at the moment it is created - changing the editor after that will not change the project.

Edit: ninja'd

mwa-ha-ha ;)

Oh - also, if you started your project in Lite and imported the files, and now you are working on that same project in the full version, it will still show those files as having been imported.

I've never been aware that Lite has red dots against RTP resources by default though.

Ah, okay.  I didn't realize you had to use a spritesheet for every custom image (I just had the image of 1 64x96 block and nothing else).  I got it working with the $Iceblock, thanks.

Depends on how you want to use it.

If you want to use it as a tile that you paint onto the map, then it must be in Tilesets, in the appropriate format.

If you want to use it as a sprite for an event, it must be in a spritesheet in Characters, in the appropriate format.

If you just want to use it as a picture, it goes into Pictures.

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
