How to make text vanish without player input?

Hi,

I'm trying to have it so that my game displays the time in the top left hand corner, and I want it to do so without the player having to press spacebar every time text appears.

I am aware that doing \^ means the player doesn't have to press spacebar, my problem is that putting 12:00\^ for example means that the text vanishes too quickly that you can't even read it.

I am also aware that \| increases the display time by 1 second, but it also seems to lock the player for 1 second. I want the player to be able to move around while the timer appears, like how you can when the map display name appears.

I've attached a screenshot of what I'm trying to do.

Hope someone can help and I'm not just being an idiot.

the way you're doing this is extremely complicated and prone to errors if for example you're changing maps. It would be better to make the event a common event instead of a map event and do it with variables counting instead of a fixed series of waits with fixed show texts.
But that is not for here as it has nothing to do with your question.

you should look for a HUD script as the show text is not a good idea for such a display. There are several scripts that can display a variable number constantly on the screen without blocking player movement or player input (as happens with show text)

Instead of text, you can make it a picture, then use show picture.

To make things way easier in every map.

@TheoAllen has a valid solution, however you would have to add 24 pictures to your project.
It's true that they wouldn't have to be huge, but you'd have to have a lot of code setup for it.
This will cause customizeable text to appear with no background in the top left corner

Add these two common events, and set two variables to behave like the ones in the examples. Pay attention to the page condition on common event 2, you'll need a switch that matches common event 1.
Finally, you'll need to call the first common event to get this kicked on.

There are drawbacks to this solution, too. And right now, it's imperfect. It probably doesn't have the font or color text that you want. And at this moment it has small quirks that would pop up, like not updating right away when you close a menu.

However, does this remind you of the general idea of what you want? If you were able to move it to a position of your liking, change font/color etc?

Thanks for all your help! I'm very new to RPG Maker VX Ace so I'm bound to be a bit of an idiot and make some mistakes. I'll look into the HUD script and try and do some pictures if I can't figure out scripts! :p I'll also watch that tutorial. Thanks for all your support! This community is class!

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
