Have you ever played FF9? Do you remember how all characters (people, creatures, npc) were looking at your character when he was close to them? If not, please just watch a few seconds of ff9 (in town) on youtube. I think, it's an amazing feature, it makes the whole game more realistic, all npc more lively. Does anybody know how to create a feature like this in VX ACE? Any ideas?

Make use of LoS and the "Set Move Route - Turn toward Player" command.  Maybe add another "invisible" event in a town map which contains conditional branches that checks the player's distance from each individual event.  If the player is close enough to an event, "Set Move Route - Turn toward Player" else, process other commands.

turn toward player, hm. Does it mean the whole player will be turned? I need to make turns only the head of npc without their body, you know, it's like the head will have its own little life :)   but at the same time it will depend on body position. Obviously, there should be a rational angle of the turn (I'm not going to make an horror game :)   )

It will change the directional line of the sprite, so if you're using default sprites it will turn the entire sprite, and it will turn in 90 degree steps.
It is not possible to have only part of the sprite turned, and it's also not possible to have turns that are less than 90 degrees unless you're using scripts to implement different sprites for that.

I just quickly made an example, using actor1, how characters should turn their heads, when player will be close to them.

Thus, every character needs 8 additional sprites, not too much :)  It can be also easy enough to create 8 spites of three-quarter face.

I wonder how the script should look like :)

Back in action to develop the indie game that has been long overdue... Final Fallacy. A game that keeps on giving! The development never ends as the developer thinks to be the smart cookie by coming back and beginning by saying... "Oh bother, this indie game has been long overdue..." How could one resist such?
