Despite the fact I'm also the type of person who recognizes people by their avatar (and sometimes signature), I do tend to change mine a few times a year. It's either a character from a game I'm working on or the current Tales character I'm maining XD. It's always by the same artist though, so I like to think that helps keep it recognizable?


I don't think I could ever change my screen name though. Even though the name is quite plain, I've gone by it for too many years now to ever use anything else. Plus I've never had any creativity towards forum names.


On the gender thing, I tend to think the majority of artists are female because pretty much every artist I know is? I don't really think about the gender of most people though.

I change my avatar every now and again sometimes. When I first joined here last year, I had Viral from Gurren Lagann since he's a character that I voiced (in a fandub) as well as being one of my favourite characters.

Then Attack on Titan happened, and Mikasa is associated with my favourite color, red. So I edited a piece of fanart of Mikasa to highlight her red scarf.

I think avatars are more powerful than people give them credit for. The image often informs the "tone" people see in the text. So if someone with a angry shouting face for an avatar goes on a long rant, it's going to seem more harsh. And when you get annoyed with people, the avatar suddenly seems annoying too. 

I always read Shaz's posts as very kind and friendly, even when straightening out someone who's misbehaving, because of the friendly looking squirrel who may be offering me an acorn. Touchfuzzy's posts seem to have a "don't mess with me" vibe, even when being friendly, because that eagle-man looks like he has no time for any BS. 

I've been Shroud forever and I think if I were to change it, nobody would know who I was.

I didn't really much pay attention for connection between avatar and post. Tough I have noticed that sometimes internet trolls have avatars what hint of that nature.

Agreed.  You should see her when she sees people posting ripped resources or breaking the rules.  Don't get in her way.  Like watching meteor crushing someone into itty bitty bits.  Cool to watch, but bad if you get in her crosshairs.

This is why I try not to do bad things on these forums.

Yours is a strange case. I think because it is not a picture of anything that looks alive, it doesn't really register one way or the other. It's just a word and a symbol accompanied by some (usually mean) text.    But yes, it's obviously highly subjective.
