How to slow player movement speed over certain tiles?

Hi everyone, I'm a newbie player and my question is right in the tile. I have my characters in the forest and I want their movement speed to slow down if they venture off the path and into the grass. I also want there to be a random chance for them to contract posion if they walk in the grass too long. Are each of these effects possible?

maybe try the Region event scripts so that you can make events that trigger when a player is in a region..

Else, you can just use a parallel process event on the map which checks which region the player is in...

Any of the two will need you to make the grass part of 1 region

Yes to both, but you'll need a way to trigger the effects.
The post above lists two methods how to identify if the player is on a specific area or tile - there are a few more. For example instead of checking region ID's (map-based), you might want to use the terrain tags (tile-based) to trigger the effect on any tile of that type, no matter where.


As soon as the common event is triggered by any of the above means, you can use the event commands to make the effects - slow down is in set move route:change speed for the player, random effects require a variable command to get the randim number and a conditional branch to test for the chance.

Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
