TileD Rpg Maker auto tile terrain tutorial

This is a very basic rundown of how to use RPG Maker MV auto tiles as terrains in TileD (Terrains are used like autotiles in TileD) It also covers how to animate RPG Maker animated autotiles in TileD. TileD is a very versatile map editor that can be used with RPG Maker MV due to the generosity and work of Archeia and Yami due to the plugin they made to integrate it with MV. You can find that plugin and other useful links and information here:

Iam using Tiled for some time now and considering, if I can put things to work on RPG Maker.

I've got a question:
As Tiled / Terrain user, I'd like to have animated water, and grass in one tileset, so I can cascade the terrains (water -> sand -> grass -> road). You kept the water part, that you animated, and the grass part in distinct tilesets. Is there a technical reason to do this (for example limitations in RPG Maker MV) or just a personal choice?

Nice video tutorial, thanks for providing this!

You can have static, terrian, and animated tiles all on one sheet, there's no need to seperate them.

Hello folks, new to Tiled and I don't seem to understand something. I am looking to create an animated oka (cherry) tree that I drew. I drew it 2x2 and only the lower 1x2 tiles are animated, namely it's an event that cycles endlessly through 3 frames (petals falling). I managed to create an animation in the software, however I am stuck right there. How do I turn that into an RPG Maker tileset, since one of my maps has reached the 999 event limit through repetitive events that take up so much space (from the event limit). And no, no lag if you ask. I've seen tutorials and the such, but they all are related to making water autotiles, which I have enough of for now. The 4 squares below representing falling petals are also animated events.

Thank you and hugs >:D<

You would simply add the three frames to a tilesheet that goes to your map on TileD (which I see you've done:) )

Then use the same animation method as the water, but only select the tiles that you want to animate. (the lower section of the trees)

You can then "paint" your trees onto any map that uses that tileset ("paint" the tree from the first frame, and it will play the other frames on your map).

I am still trying to figure that out. Thank you wonderful soul for your reply but am still confused a bit. I don't know exactly how to save the page in the format needed. I did something, saved as .png, but the tiles were moved a few pixels downwards (I could see a bit from the above tile in each case). And after I do this animation in the new tileset, do I need to keep the other 2 tree images once I have the animation set in the .png file? (Wouldn't mind the extra space :)

Yes you have to keep the trees for each frame because when you set the animation your telling the software to display the image from each frame in a certain order at a certain speed. If you remove or even move the image after setting the animation it will break it.

The exception would be if you had three frames of ONLY the bottom portion of the tree and painted that it with a seperate single image of the top portion of the tree. You could save some space that way, but you have to have all three frames of the animated part.

Thank you again, I was thinking about doing this (only 1 upper part because it's basically the same). Am still confused with the way I have to put it into an "outer file" I can use. Will figure something out <3.

I have seen a more in-depth video on how to use Tiled. However, I do not want to create a new map. I already have those. All I need is create an animated tile of the tree. And other few things. To save event slots cause I reached the event limit XD And just that. No new maps needed. If I create one new map though and I add it to the game, can I copy the animated tiles into my other map that uses the same tile sheet and have it still work?

??? I'm confused...

Why wouldn't you just add the tree to a tile sheet you're already using for the map(s) you need it for? Or if you've used up all the room you have so far, add another tile sheet to the map. As far as I know, that's the only way to do it.

I feel like you're asking if there's a way to make it into an animated object, like a stamp of something... if there is a way to do that, I'm not aware of it.

You can have multiple tilesheets for each map. Also, you can add tile sheets to a finished map later, I do it frequently.

I saved the picture I got with the animated tree as a tile (.png). And it didn't work, guess I screwed something up XD Also I see the program comes with much more setup than I have currently. I have to create the folders, put in the plugin and learn how to use each part in turn. Thanks for the help <3 Hugs, you are loved and appreciated!
