Disclaimer: I'm not sure whether it fits for General Discussion or Mechanic Design, but I think I will put here.

A casual discussion sparked in a certain discord chat about a game tutorial. Since I never really thought about creating a tutorial about my game (I hate making them). I usually rely on HUD and extra chunks of information displayed on the HUD that hopefully, anyone with "gaming common senses" knows what I mean. I never really thought of explaining every piece of them as a tutorial.

That makes me wonder. How basic is would you explain about your game? Did you include "use the arrow key to move around" tutorial as you believe the majority of people who play the game wouldn't know how to move around? Do you use a scenario sequence to let the player went through various obstacles to know how the game works? Or do you prefer a game that puts all the tutorial in a separate menu and let the player read about it?

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
