I installed the Steam version today. But I want to use the normal version again. So I right click on my project file and select "open with...". I then select the non-steam version but then it automatically switches to the steam version...

The steam version is too limited. I want the normal version. Is this possible without de-installing the steam version?

I also noticed that not all 24-bitmaps are accepted for the cloud for some reason. There are more hidden restrictions. And the bmp is like over 1 MB in size... Also the description-editor doesn't allow me to use [enter]. It will just close the entire window. I have to do that through Steam.

Kind of curious why you're using bmp's though.

I just reinstalled the non-steam version and that seemed to fix it when it happened to me.

I thought I had to use bmp's. I didn't know what other formats were accepted and found a guide on Steam that told me to use 24-bit bmp's. So I assumed that png and jpg was out of the question. Because why else use bmp? Also, RPG Maker itself did not seem to give me any info on valid images. It just told me that the selected one was not valid. It did not tell me which ones are valid.

I tried using regedit to change the application path but that did nothing. I suppose that the 'small gray startup window' that says "Loading..." somehow decides which RM to start.

Thanks that solved it. I downloaded the trial version and pressed install (right over the old installation, after backing it up first). And it fixed the problem. I can now use 'the good version' again.

bmps are non transparent. You HAVE to use pngs if you want to make characters or anything that doesn't take a full tile.

Have a look in the help file (F1) for resource specifications. BMPs are HUGE files. I can't imagine why ANYONE would even recommend using them much less stating they HAVE to be used.

@Shaz - if I remember right from what I read on the announcement, the image to be used for the workshop file should be a BMP... that's why I asked him if that was what he's using it for... else, yeah he shouldn't really be using them

Yes I meant the workshop images. The RM Ace steam news about the workshop did not contain any such info. And the application itself also did not (unless I missed it).

Sorry guys I meant the workshop images. Not the tiles or anything. The one that you have to select when you synch it with the cloud. That image.

It's pretty normal that the program does not since I don't think they did edit the help file for the steam version... I do think it was on the announcement, maybe not directly on the post but on some replies. :)

You seem to be asking several questions here (your topic says non-steam version, but the bmp issue is specifically WITH the steam version).

I just reinstalled the non-steam version and that seemed to fix it when it happened to me.
Does this resolve your "how to use the non-steam version of ace" question? If so, I'll go ahead and close this, and any other, unrelated questions, you can start new threads for them.

Yes I mentioned in my 2nd post that it was already solved. But I indeed asked two questions in one post... So go ahead and close it.

Someone else will ask it again someday anyway (the trick was to copy it into mspaint before saving because mspaint has the proper bmp settings it seems).

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
