You know, if you were to mix all your all-time favorite games into one, how would it be like?

Would you try to create that game?

If I mixed all my favorite games into one it probably wouldn't be a very good game. I feel at times games try to be too many things. XD

Let's see. A game that is Paper Mario, Banjo-Kazooie, Majora's Mask, and Earthbound. I could keep going. Uhhh, some of that might work. In fact, I sort of want to make a dark and macabre game (in theme) that is actually very kooky, bizarre, and bright beneath the layers. But melding those game plays together? Uhhh, not all of it.

Erm...

A real-time strategy action battle game that mixes elements of FF12's combat with FF9's characterization, storytelling and dialogue (seriously, 9 has the best story in any FF, especially in the first two hours) and the worldbuilding of 12 also... (I miss that game -.-)

Also, bringing in the graphics of 15 (though I'm not too bothered what kind of art it is, it can be 9-style for all I care) and delivering an immersive experience with lots of side-quests and fun events like in Ratchet and Clank 3.

EDIT: And Resi 4 Inventory Management o.o

My game would end up as an insane crossover between Baldur's Gate, Persona 3 and Crash Bandicoot...I don't even know how they would meld together.

Ironically, now that I think about it, the game I want to make would sort of mix gameplay mechanics (not plot, obviously) from these three games and I KNOW how I would like to do it... I just don't have the means (Scritpting/graphics...) to do so. :(

BTW, crossovers are weird:

I assume you mean a game with all my favourite features, right?

Well, let's see. This is what my favourite game will contain:

- Plays like an RPG.

- A sci-fi setting spanning many worlds with alien races and robots, but not to the point where it gets confusing.

- An interesting plot full of mystery and some plot twists that would keep me gripped.

- Characters I care about, especially my party members. Those party members shouldn't be all humans or all male. I want variety - several alien members, at least 1 robot member, and roughly equal number of male to female members.

- It should be possible to play through the entire game without having to ever grind.

- Save anywhere

- Dungeons shouldn't be too long. No more than 30 minutes per dungeon.

- A quest journal and clear instructions so that I never have to wonder where to go and what to do. This also includes making it reasonably easy to find sidequests and for the game to always warn me beforehand when I am about to go to an area with no return or do something irreversible or anything that will cause me to miss out on the sidequests I have not yet completed in the area.

- Some branching choices given during the game, but not to the point where I have to replay the game again to experience a big chunk of it by selecting the other choice. Also for any choices, there must always be a neutral option. I HATE black and white choices which wouldn't let you stay neutral.

- No info dumps! I don't care about the backstory in the first 10 minutes. I just want to get right into action and get a feel of the game. Likewise, no tutorial info dumps either. Gameplay mechanics should be introduced gradually.

- Fairly simple controls. I don't like having to memorise 2387345345 key bindings.

- A choice to upgrade your character in a variety of ways, ALL of which are viable, and ALL of which are explained clearly, especially if the game lets me upgrade some stats at the very beginning.

- A selection of difficulties which change more in the game than just ramping up enemy stats. For example: introducing some new enemies which are stronger, or giving enemies some new, deadlier skills to use in battle.

- Some puzzles and mini-games to change the pace a bit, but so that they're not frustrating. I don't like being stuck on a puzzle for hours or having to do too much trial and error.

- Engaging battle system with battles that are based on strategy rather than grinding and that the mechanics are simple enough to understand. Basically a battle system that is easy to learn but takes time to master.

- Atmospheric visuals that would fit to the moderately serious nature of the game.

- A mindblowing soundtrack. I want to enjoy the music in every single area, battle, and cutscene, especially in boss fights. I love cool boss fights that have an epic or a fast-paced music track playing on the background.

- Mostly linear but with some optional content provided.

- About 10-20 hours per playthrough length. I don't really have the time to play games that last for 40, 50, 100 hours.

- Being able to get in contact with the developer with ease, so that I can tell them how amazing their game is.

Hmm. Now looking at this list, it seems I know exactly what I want Incitement 3 to be. Going to be using this as a guideline. Hell of a brainstorm. :D

Thanks. I've had fun putting it together. Didn't realise there'd be THAT many features on it.

- A deep storyline and gear battles from Xenogears.

- A gothic-dark world from Medievil or a nice light-hearted one from Spyro the Dragon.

- War battles, cooking challenges and castle build from Suikoden 2.

- Well developed and interesting characters from Final Fantasy VI.

- Battle System from Final Fantasy Tactics or Legend of Legaia (or a combination of both).

- Graphics from Legend of Mana (I friggin love the artwork there).

- Funny Events\Quests from Tomba!

- Puzzles from Wild Arms.

- Music from Chrono Cross.

- Dragon Forms from Breath of Fire 3-4.

- Capturing and fusing monsters from Jade Cocoon.

- Platform mechanic from Crash Bandicoot.

I know, it doesn't make sense at all BUT it would be so EPIC and funny as hell...ahahahahahah.

I just realized that these are all PSX games, damn I feel old here. :distrust:

A kind of Kingdom Hearts styled game (in terms of battle system and platforming) with a deeper and more serious storyline... And maybe a lot more customization since KH games doesn't really have that much in terms of customization (aside from maybe the newer ones, but they are still low on it IMHO).

Oh wait, that game might be FFXV...

Specifically:

- Battle system and customization -> Like that of KH:BBS with more options (like allowing players to build their own stat growth instead of a fixed one, so we could effectively build the character that we want)

Or a rune factory-ish game, in which farming is more instense like harvest moon with the battle system inspired by KH

Call me crazy, but I miss virtually rolling stats in video game RPGs! So, party/character generation in the vein of the old-school Might a Magic series would be a feature. Though, I could get behind a point-buy system as well.

Since it's me, Lloyd's Beacon, or something like it, would also be a feature. I mean, players setting their own teleport locations? SIGN ME UP!

A 'level up as you do it' skill system like Skyrim or Rune Factory, paired with tactical real-time fighting like God Eater or Zelda.

I'd like a swordplay system like Metal Gear Rising Revengeance or Zelda: Skyward Sword. Rather than just swinging a sword, I really enjoyed the aspect of hitting enemies' weaknesses through the angling of your sword.

A skill activation system that chains from regular attacks like Legend of Legaia.

Outside of battle,

A social aspect to the game outside of battles like that of Persona, to build the immersion.

A loot system like Borderlands 2 that have so many variations of the same kind of weapon but each can be vastly different.

Crafting mini-games like Fantasy Life actually makes crafting less mundane, if I did ever choose to put crafting in my game.

It's easy to pick and match favourite games together, but once it gets to the balancing, it'll get more of a pain "OTL.

I'd list all of my favorite video games and highlight why I liked that game and so does other players. Then incorporate those things that I like into my game and create the story which is the centerpiece of the game (along with the gameplay of course). I'd mix them all up and there goes my perfect game. Everything has to be perfect and incorporates the things I like. And where I could showcase my talents and brag them to my friends.. Nope, just kidding..  :guffaw:

Mine would be a mix of Final Fantasy VII, VIII and X story quality, Skyrim's open world and made with the FF XIII engine.

I dream since years of a TBS mecha game somewhere between the Front Mission series and the Battletech tabletop game, with a little of Gungriffon:

- a resaonnably advanced technology but not too much (no space op' level) to keep it understandable and avoid BS/nonsense of completely unrealistic/overpowered/stupid weapons and systems in general – things which could happen until the end of this century, basically.

- a near future where the world is crumbling under the weights of too many problems remained unsolved since far too much long (politics, economics, ethnics, ecologics, etc.) and a bunch of soldiers trying to do what looks right to them while attempting to survive another day in a series of conflicts which put the entire world to flames

- a strong and emotional story which will allow the player to take a glimpse at a plausible, grim future where the good doesn't always win and the weak pays instead of the ones who should, where the mistakes of today became the scourges of tomorrow, where innocence is the first victim of war

- a simple turn based tactical combat system, possibly with simultaneous actions (Robot Warlords/Velvet File) for keeping it realistic, but without zillions of skills which appear from nowhere and that you can never use because there's too many of them and not enough room in your inventory (yes, FM2: I'm looking at you...)

- very visual action scenes, to let the player feels all the power of the mechas (FM3 FTW!), with plenty of explosions/smokes for missiles and rockets as well as bullet impacts and other sources of joy, preferably in an anime style to remain faithful to the roots of the genre (Gadget Trial)

- no gold system but a carefully balanced list of parts to update the mechas according to the player style of play and personal preferences (Armored Core) – after all, soldiers at war don't pay for their equipment, it is provided by the army – and a list of recommended armament for specific missions when required

- drones, in swarms as well as in motherships (as described in P. W. Singer's essay Wired for War)

- power armors, as support infantry, and vehicles such as tanks, choppers and so on

I stop here, you get the point... :p

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
