I meant some kind of script which generated a different sprite like the many character creator scripts here just for npcs.

So if the PC enters the city not always the same NPC walks from left to right.

you can do that with eventing alone - and while there are scripts that allow for event creation, that is effectively a lot more workt than making an event in the editor, and those scripts shouldn't be used for anything that can be done in the editor for that reason.

In your case, I suggest looking for the "remember event position" script here on the board and make your events store their position, that will prevent them from starting at the same position whenever the player enters the map.

If you combine that with a few variations in the events themselves and longer move routes traveling the entire city and it should be enough

Don't forget about sound. Adding background noise & chatter will do absolute wonders for creating the atmosphere of a bustling city.

Yeah I was going to say sound/music is often the one thing that makes me either hate or love large cities in jrpgs.

I've moved this thread to VX Ace Support. Please be sure to post your threads in the correct forum next time. Thank you.

This isn't a discussion on game mechanics - it's a "how do I ..." type thread, so moving.

Well, what has been said is correct: NPC's walking around, music, ... you can let them run small errands, let them talk to different people, let them learn about the history of the town or the world.

Furthermore, to give the ambiance of there being many people in the city, like right around the corner, I'd suggest hunting down some free sound effects, if your game is going to be non-commercial.

Sound Effects can do so much for a game!!

Also, if you wanted to change the NPCs you saw throughout the day, I'd start to tinker with common events perhaps.

Goodluck to you on your city scene!

Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.

Back in action to develop the indie game that has been long overdue... Final Fallacy. A game that keeps on giving! The development never ends as the developer thinks to be the smart cookie by coming back and beginning by saying... "Oh bother, this indie game has been long overdue..." How could one resist such? No-one c
