I can't be the only one who does this...right?

When I come up with a scene in a game, and how I think is should play out, I tend to flick on a song that fits the current setting, and begin to act it out. If there is something that would signify a sword, staff, or any form of weapon, I tend to pick it up and use it as a surrogate for what the character is using.

The only reason I am asking this is because I find myself acting out a scene where the protag of a game I am working on storms a warehouse with her friend, all to stop some crazy mages and get her friend's sister back. I swing at the air, make gestures with my hand to simulate a spell being cast, and ready myself for a fight with the BBEG of the scene.

God I am a nerd, but it helps me figure things out on how a scene should play out. Does anybody else do this, or am I the only one? ^^;

I don't do exactly that but whenever I'm thinking or planning a game or project I listen to music (usually Elvis Presley). I find music very inspiring and fair to say one or two songs later inspiration has usually struck.

I can't say I've ever acted out a scene of my game though. But hey, it wouldn't do if we were all the same would it? :)

I have the advantage of having a Storyline contributer.  He doesn't do the storyline by himself, but rather we negotiate the storyline, specifically cutscenes.  I will explain what I have planned and he will point out flaws in it's realism, in some cases offering alternatives.  Sometimes the cutscene plays out as initially planned...   other times, it is completely changed into something else.

Because of his presence, I do not feel the need to act out scenes at all...  but I won't lie, I do see the advantage of doing just that if I were doing storyline completely alone.

As for music selection, I tend to select cutscene music after the cutscene is built (but that is just a personal preference).  Now mapping on the other hand - I have a tendency to select the music that best fits the mood of the area I am trying to map, and will play the music while I am creating the map.  I find that the present mood helps me to better mold the map into exactly what I am after.  (It should be noted that mapping is a huge strength of mine whereas storyline and the patience needed for cutscenes is a weakness I possess.)

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
