Not exactly - if you had steam cloud enabled (and it would have been working for you), then it should automatically revert.

Most times data is lost that is because your computer crashed (or was forcefully shutdown) while you were working on the project.

In that case you'll get an "unreadable" error when trying to open the project, and then there are a few ways to recover part of the damaged data.

Sometimes the problem is that you simply opened the wrong project, in that case you need to manually open the correct project.

However, we need more info on what messages you got and what happens when you try to open the project, before we can even try to help you.

no, nothing happen (no shutdown or anything).. ok this is my case :

i am working like 3 project at a time. 1 for the real, 2 for the test projects for testing scripts etc. I havent touch the real project for a while.

the first test project has all of my latest scripts written there.

the second test project for testing a little scripts and etc.

all of sudden, i tried opening the first test project, i checked, my recent scripts weren't there, but scripts from few days ago.. which is too little to what i've done recently.

then i opened my real project, everything also gone. maps and etc. then i check the steam icon in the tray, and saw 'synchronizing'... to my greatest fear, i think steam might have deleted all my recent saves...

well, i've backed up some little scripts somewhere, but was not all. :(

thank you for your response.

Check your most recently saved documents on the computer.
hmm ok, will see somewhere.

===========================

edit :

ok here some progress, i check back my folder of my real project... and saw like Map001.rvdata2 to Map006.rvdata2... is it the data for my map? but i opened the Game.rvproj2 i didn't see my map at all..

help me on this please.. thanks.. ;)

1)

If you're jumping between different projects AND use steam synchronisation, then those projects better have different titles - as far as I know the cloud synchronisation works title-based, and projects saved with in different folders but with the same title and name can get combined in cloud synchronisation.

2)

yes, the map00#-files are the maps you saved, but they can only be loaded if the project knows about them.

copy the entire project folder to somewhere else.

Then open the project in the original folder and create new (empty) maps up to the map-ID that you have the maps saved.

After that, copy the mapfiles from the copied folder back into the original folder.

That should restore the maps (unless the cloud synchronisation makes the wrong update again, in that case temporarily disable it in steam, copy again, save project again and enable cloud again)

2. Wew!! thanks a lot for the help!! i've just recovered the maps!!

1. Ya i am jumping between the projects, but usually I opening more than 1 RPG maker vx ace at a time. Btw, do you think, i can recover the lost script back by since there's only one file named Scripts.rvdata2.

I think i should just turn steam cloud off.. i afraid it will make another messes on my project.. do you think it's recommended?

Thanks so very-much for the help >,,,,<  :)   :)   :)   :)

each of your projects should have that file... if only 1 exists, then something removed it from your computer

PS: did you by any chance stopped the synchronization?

I personally never use Steam synchronization because it offers several "bonuses" I've seen firsthand:

- Sometimes it makes the wrong choice and then blithely replaces the newer file contents with older Steam contents

- Projects with it enabled must check with the Steam cloud when you open the project --- this can take a while

- Projects with it enabled must save the project to the Steam cloud when you save it --- this REALLY takes awhile.  Games which take less than a second to save can suddenly take 30 seconds to save.

What I do is use Winzip, compress my entire project, and put the ZIP file into the Dropbox directory.  That takes awhile to upload, but it happens in the background and does NOT automatically replace my project contents on other PCs.

The only time I might use it is if I had a finished game, made a backup copy of it and wanted to share it on the Steam Workshop.

yeah, it happened to my Ys Origins save file... I played it in offline mode, then when I reconnected steam, it reverted to the older save files...

thanks for sharing. now i am turning it off for good. :) i am planning to use github for backup/version control later.

no, i never really know things about steam synchronization that time. i don't really remember because i was some kind of panic that time when i see all my saved data was lost, by chance i probably might have closed steam while it is synchronizing. but now i know, and have it turned off. ;)

Thanks everyone!, i guess this case can now be closed. ;)

Just remember:  When you create ANY new project, it automatically has Steam synchronization enabled.  You'll need to go into Manage Projects to turn it off.

emm, did you mean, it will still do the sync even though i've just unticked 'Enable Steam Cloud synchronization for RPG Maker VX Ace' on application properties on steam.

ok, so, i navigated to manage project.. and click 'delete from cloud' to disable it. Is this correct?

thanks for the help .. ;)

Yes, what you did is right.  At least I always do that and find my save speeds increase dramatically so I assume it's no longer doing Steam synchronization.

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
How many parameters is 'too many'??
