I need to record my screen

I'm looking for a screen recorder that is free, virus free and safe to download. I'm using Windows 10.


It should be able to only film a specific part of the screen, and I must be able to open the videos in WIndows Live Movie Maker. 
Do anybody know about a program that van do this?

You might wanna look up some tutorials on how to use it. For instance it doesn't record the audio directly from the PC, so you got to set up your microphone output as your pc audio to make sure it records.


There are also different recording qualities you can set up and different file types you can record as. Such as frames per second, overall picture quality, etc... I think for the video I posted, it was like 40 frames per second and like 70% overall quality. The file size of the recording itself was about 1.7 gb.

Screencast o Matic is a browser-based screen capture and works pretty well. The UI is very simple and easy to use, the only downside is that if you use the free version they'll put a watermark near the bottom of whatever you're capturing.

One of the best ones by far is Camtasia, if you have a hard time with Camstudio (I always do, because of how you have to find your own codecs). The problem is it's too expensive. : / If you're rich, get Camtasia, though.

OBS is what most streamers use, but you can also locally record a window or section of the screen. It is open source, virus free, and widely used, no ads or other software installed.

Another vote for OBS.  Very powerful software that works just as well for recording as it does for broadcasting.
