I can recommend bad ones, there's a guy on youtube who used to do a series called bad rpg maker games which were mainly xp games, its the funniest series I've seen lol.
There is one on steam called aveyond that looks like xp.
There's several:
the Aveyond games, the Millenium games, Agapan, 3 Stars of Destiny, Edolie, Midnight's Blessing (2), Stargazer, To the Moon, Vagrant Hearts (2), Valiant, etc.
Most of the above use a combination of custom and RTP.
The Aveyond games, Stargazer, To The Moon and Edolie are my favourites among those
I think "RPG Maker" is actually a searchable category. Though, I don't think specific versions of makers can be searched on steam. "RPG Maker" is one of the terms I have sort of saved to my search preferences there.
There are user-defined tags where Steam users tag games as RPG Maker
Do be aware that there are some false positives, and some RPG Maker games are not marked as such.
Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
Can someone recommend some fun story-heavy RPGs to me? Coming up with good gameplay is a nightmare! I was thinking of making some gameplay platforming-based, but that doesn't work well in RPG form*. I also was thinking of removing battles, but that would be too much like OneShot. I don't even know how to make good puzzles!
