I noticed a pattern in the release of PC RPG Maker engines

*keels over the painful truth.*

VX's mapping limitations ... ;~;
That expression is new to me. Is keel a boat? I guess that meant we have to overcome these disappointments like a boat manages to go over many waves.

I think it was supposed to be *kneels*, unless keel is a new word or something

If that was kneel, what was that supposed to mean?

It's an expression based on old-timey sea language. Keel refered to a boat's structure and 'keel over' is like saying the boat has turned upside-down. When talking about an actual boat, you would just say 'capsized' though. Also, 'keelhauling' was a punishment where a person would be tied to a line and thrown off the side of a ship so they'd be dragged underneath.

I don't follow Japanese development too closely, but it seems like more Japanese developers are working with Wolf Engine more than RPGMaker, lately. I'm sure we'll see an announcement soon just to stop people from fully adopting that as a free alternative.

@Pugh

Thank you! Though the discription contained difficult words, I managed to understand that the keel was a long arched log supporting the ship at the bottom of it. And the word also means the verv to turn over the ship.

@Monkeynohito

Yes, in Japan, we use Wolf Editer. It demands almost everything from zero. But it's so flexible that, if you master the tool, you can make even a shooting game! BTW, your last sentence was a bit difficult. What does the adopting mean?

In that sentence, I mean 'adopting' like...people are accepting Wolf Editor like someone might accept another person's child as their own.

VX Ace is also flexible with scripts (people have made shooters with it too), but that can be almost as much work as creating things from almost nothing in Wolf Editor. Advanced Japanese users don't see much difference between the two engines. RPGMaker can't compete with Wolf Editor's price because it's free, it can't compete by being simple or people will see RPGMaker as a toy, so they need to make RPGMaker more powerful in some ways.

So the announcement was made by Enterbrain as a biological child in your context. Deep sense couldn't be catched unless I asked. Thank you!

I think people like users of RPG Maker tend to need more flexibility. As you said, in that point, Free softs can be as flexible as they want. So the commercial product need to compete by offering some special merits such as high quality resourses or user support services.

@Archeia

You meant stagger then? I keel over the depth of English history.

Hmm...Many Japanese users are abandoning RPGMaker so they can adopt Wolf Editor. It is like trading an old child for a new one. This was my original meaning. :D

I see a lot of Wolf Engine games that seem only slightly more advanced than VX Ace; some users only want Wolf Editor's resolution support. If Enterbrain announces new development, these users may remain loyal to RPGMaker products.

To be honest, I was a one of the biggest fan of RPG Maker about 20 years ago when EnterBrain was ASCII. I still remember well about the day when I saw the advertisement on newspaper. It was the first time when the RPG Maker was released as a video game. Since then, I've played many RPG Makers. Now it's out of my hand. I just can't foget the excitement I had that day. I'm still a big fan of RPG Maker, not as a player for now. But if the new version seems nice, maybe again.

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
