I Want to make a Heroclix Engine

I recently got into the table top game, Heroclix, and I wanted to engage in an attempt at creating a engine to make Custom maps for the game using RPG Maker, and then just play off the Maker Program. I know in theory I can just make the maps for the scenarios using the program, but At the same time, i kinda want to use the pieces in game vs just basic circles to represent the heros in question. Complete with dials and card stats.


If anyone needs an example of hero clix, let me know and i can upload a picture of a card and dial.

It's not clear to me what you mean by "just play off the Maker Program".  Please clarify this.  (I sent you a pm about this earlier, but someone approved this thread before you had a chance to reply.  More details in that pm.)

I mean use the program itself to play, instead of just as a map, showing the dials and everything in game, that way i dont need to pull out a different program for custom dials and everything.  And yes, ksjp, was just abbreviation of the RPG Maker XP Program.

Okay, well the problem is this.


You want to make your own engine and use XP to create the maps.  However, the EULA is explicit that RM resources can only be used inside an RM engine.  You cannot use them in any other engine, including one you have made yourself.

Can you clarify - do you mean you want to make an engine that will make the maps for this game but then import those maps into RM to play?

Wow, did i really make it that hard to understand? lol, I want to make a engine WITH-IN RPG MAKER XP, that will show dials and character abilities IN GAME, so I can use maps I make using the RPG MAKER PROGRAM, *still same program, no other software* and allow me to move each "character" around the maps individually, so its like Im playing the table top, but using the program to create custom campaign stories.

What do you mean by making an engine ? With scripts ? No problem in this case.

Well, yes, it was a bit confusing. "Engine" can mean a lot of things from a group of scripts/plugins to a completely separate program. That's why we were trying to clarify what you meant, as depending on what you meant by an engine, it could flat out be an illegal use of XP to do what you wanted.


As for whether something like that can be done in XP, I have no clue. :p

Okay, I think it's clear now.  However, that probably means that this should be in XP Support, as you seem to be asking a "How do I...?" question, and this forum is for discussing the design of game mechanics, not their implementation.  


So you have a choice.  I could move this thread as it is to XP Support, but the risk is that the way the discussion has gone, it's not until your last post that the real question becomes clear.  People might not read that far down.  Or, I could close this thread and you could start a new one, with your new first post rephrased.


Which option would you like?

delete it and ill attempt at redesigning the topic in the right spot at a later date, as i got some other things now i need to take care of before having the time again to work on this. Yay for "real life" getting in the way of pure enjoyment of worldly existence
