I had this idea to make a game split into 3 stories that can be played in any order.
This would mean that there would be 6 possible game combinations that the player can go through.
The idea is that each individual story is going to be different depending on if it was the first, second, or third story you chose; there could even be choices within the game that determine which store you play next, or other factors within the game.
I'm curious to hear what you all think of this idea and if you have any feedback!

@GoodSelf i love it, because islts a similar premise to my own game, though i was inspired by Megaman and how stages change depending on which robot masters you beat. Like how you can flood the forest in Megaman x (the first one i think, i may be confused). It adds a lot of replay value while also allowing you to reuse content and as a designer it also means you get to use more of your ideas that would end up on the cutting room floor.

that's funny, kuz i too have 3 different stories happening at the same time in my game that can be played in a certain order. sometimes each party somehow indirectly helps out the other partys during the story. there is 1 area in my game that all characters can go to that requires you to use every dungeon item in the game to get through.
So, it's common in RPGs to have your hero be some kind of 'chosen one' on a quest literally to save the world. Is that a positive or a negative? I mean, for me one of the biggest frustrations in big-title RPGs is that you're this messiah figure (even if you're roleplaying an rear end in a top hat) and the fate of the universe hinges on everything you do...and it just seems overdone to me. The intended plot for my game has a hero, just not a destined one, and one who is saving those close to him in an imperfect world rather than righting every problem he comes across like Superman.
Then again, the big-title RPGs are making a ton of money, and I figure they have to know what they're doing. So, do you guys like being the 'hero of destiny' in games?
Honestly usually rather than a messiah like figure its usually just that the protagonist is the only one effectively combating them. I personally like the character to have some established place in the world, and I don't mind being limited to personal victories. Its basically how warhammer fantasy worked and how 40k usually works, well 40k is now 1 step forward (Guilliman comes back) two steps back (The Eye of Terror expanded and tore the Imperium in half.)
What...NOT A TSUNDERE!! You kidding me? You've dashed all my hopes and dreams, I'm going to cry myself to sleep harder than that time my mom ate my fries that one time I really wanted fries.
@trouble time@gigaswardblade Well, I also have like 15 other ideas, so, we'll see what happens XD Working on a small project right now. It's got a name, but I'm hesitant to put out any information until I'm like 90% done.
Question. If I were to post a map on here for tips, how would I go about doing it? Screenshot? or save it as a picture file then edit it to show the specific area that I am needing tips on?
Long long time ago... I once had this idea about your usual Harvest Moon like game. Only difference here, you have sibling, so you are not all alone. The main character is both the little brother and the big sister. Every new day at morning you've got to choose who's gonna wake up first, which decide which character you control for today. You need to wake up your bro / sis and tell what's his / her chores for today. Your sibling then will perform his / her task and won't be able to leave the farm.
its been a while since my last actual post where i asked for feedback. i recently got into starcraft 2 and have been playing it a lot. but now im here to add some more stuff to my last post. ive noticed that i haven't been getting much feedback since i was gone. im guessing either not a lot of people come by here or maybe everyone's moved on from my post. but enough bull ****za. lets get to the point already.
heres the last post in case you didnt wanna go back and read it again.
i'll continue from where i last left off. if you've forgotten what my map looks like, then just click the spoiler thingy and you'll see my previous post. i feel like maybe i should keep these descriptions shorter this time. mainly kuz i didn't put too much thought into every single region.
5: halu vaans (hah-loo-vans) is the starting region for party 2. it's ruled by the light elves and is home to many magical creatures. that's it really. dungeon: the hydro complex.
6: gyagyo (gee-ah-gee-oh) it's... uh... it has a savannah? and a garden maze for a dungeon? ok, i got nothing for this region. i actually had it removed for a short while, but i wanted all 3 parties to explore an even number of regions, so i brought it back. dungeon: gracia's garden.
7: xio (jhee-oh) is a vast desert full of dangerous monsters. this region is home to the dark elves and the sanders which are a race of sand people and are mostly all male. there's a volcanic region near the top of this region. there is no dungeon in this region.
8: aggron (ag-ron-) is a treacherous frontier mountain range. the only people that live there are the halflings. they moved there to escape the war between the light and dark elves that happened years ago. there's also a kind of wild west town thats in front of the mountain range. dungeon: aggron's inferno. there is also a power plant located inside a valley next to aggron that supplies power to the entire continent.
9: akinomori (ah-kee-no-more-ee) is the starting region for party 3. the whole region is full of trees that are always in autumn. it is home to the oni, which are a race of monsters that have become to look more human like over a long period of time. this was where the original orcs were first made, though its mostly ogres that run amok in this region. the other orc types have moved all around the world. it is also home to the tengu, which are a race that originated from fallen angels. the worlds biggest technology manufacturer and scientific research lab named "kolcade industries" is located in this region. your party goes there in order to stop a corrupt ceo from messing with a scientific anomaly that could destroy the world. there is also a dead forest filled with youkai. dungeons: cretin's hideout and kolcade industries.
10: vensil (ven-sil) is a big open plains region. there are a few mountains and a second frontier that hold a lot of secrets from ancient times. there is no dungeon.
11: kamborion (kam-bor-ee-on) is an alpine region that is home to a type of crystal called "kamborionite" (or should it be kamborium?) which is a crystal that does a lot of things like make its own energy and making for powerful weapons and armor. the sprites, which are a race of people with bug wings and antennas, used to protect the forests and wildlife has now become more industrialized and have built a city that has so much pollution in the air that its blocked out the sun. they'd cut down entire forests just to find even a tiny bit of kamborionite. there is a swamp full of toxic marsh that is home to giant crabs insert crab people reference here. there is also a dark and creepy mansion on top of the mountain side to the right that is rumored to be home to a vampire. dungeon: maccauley manor
ps, that giant person standing in the field is a robot and will be saved for another time.
13: okipali (oh-kee-pah-lee) is an underwater region that is filled with many reefs and sunken vessels to be explored there are these people called the sahuagin which are the fish people of course. all 5 of the egg born races are cursed to be mindless puppets for an overmind because of an ancient being that killed the sacred beasts. (ill probably explain that later if i remember) they live in a castle thats build inside of a trench. there are also other creatures like the tentin, which are octopuses that can walk on land and carry tridents and will attack anything that isnt an aquatic creature. you are able to go there after party 1 gets this spell that allows them to walk and breath underwater. dungeon: abyssal castle
ps i changed the name since the first post.
14: prehisto (pree-hiss-toe) island is a secluded island that is full of dinosaurs and reptiles alike. the island is roughly in the shape of a pterodactyls head. this is where the reptilians, another egg race that is cursed to be monsters, make their home. the island is covered in vast jungles. party 2 finds that this is where the reptilians live and decide to attack them head on since the reptilians are whats causing the most problems for party 2. dungeon: prehisto island.
15: beeden (bee-den) is the land of fairy tails and mystical beasts. most of the classic fantasy creatures like dragons, centaurs, gryphons, meducas, and others stuff. there is a race of insect people called insectoids which are the 3rd cursed egg race. though in this land, some of the sub races have been broken of the curse which gives party 3 hope that the ancient curse can be broken. the most powerful of the sub races are the beek, which are like greek/roman empire type bees who have enslaved the antisians, which are ants. there are also some other races of insectoids that dont live there like the beetalians which are beetles, the motholans which are moths, and my personal favorite; the skeeters which are mosquitoes. the reason for going to this area is to open a portal to a place called asrina which is located inside ancient ruins reminiscent of fantasy rpg games of old. the portal doesnt open since they dont have everything that they need. dungeon: sanctum of the eyeglass.
16: asrina (as-ree-nah) is the heaven type area in the game. there are many floating island and clouds that you can walk on. the realm is ruled by enis, the goddess of light. you visit this area after the 3 parties have joined together and have the correct items in order to enter. they need the help of the goddess to stop the villain of the game from turning the world into a baron wasteland of death and fear. the goddess informs them that they also need the help from the other goddess who rules over nagara. there is no dungeon.
17: nagara (nah-gah-rah) is the hell type area in the game. the whole place is completely underground and has a ton of lava and demons everywhere. the whole party needs to fight their way through a never ending amount of demons to get to the throne of arol, the goddess of darkness. she decides to help them and goes on to tell them about the true villain of the game, who has been using the before thought main villain as a pawn. there is no dungeon.
18: drekkulaish (dreck-you-laysh) is a wasteland full of undead. this is where the final battle takes place. the main villain sends out everything he's got to stop the mega party from beating him. they do get to his castle and lay waste to his army of elemental creations and risen dead. they reach him and have an all out battle. after defeating him, he goes on to explain that drekkulaish was once his home, and was full of life. until these monsters called the defyers tainted it to the point of no return. he was told by the true main villain that his home could be saved if he helped him. but before they could finish him off, he gets taken away by a giant undead monster. he later realizes that he was being used, and that the real main villain was never gonna bring his home back. all he wanted was to use him to do all the work for him so he could take revenge on the ones that imprisoned him in nagara. the old mail villain was then left to die, but was able to escape and helps the heroes in the true final battle. dungeon: drekkulaish kingdom.
19: the farlands is an after game area in which you meet these drow like people that are referred to as the farlanders. they actually never bothered to give their own race a name, since they just considered themselves to be "just people". the farlands are a mysterious land that is really far away from riften. the lands are impossible to explore, since any progress you make in the farlands basically sends you back to where you started, no matter how far you travel. there is a temple that has the hardest boss in the game waiting at the bottom of a gauntlet of enemies you have fought along your journeys. dungeon: temple of the farlands.
20 i guess: there are a few extra zones and dimensions that i decided to put here instead of dedicating separate numbers to. the first is called the stardust dimension which is pretty much outer space. this is where ancient beings that are higher than even the 2 goddesses dwell. at this point of the game, you should be strong enough to defeat literal gods with ease. there are walkways that are surrounded with atmosphere and gravity so that any mortal that is lucky enough to end up there doesnt instantly die. the god of gods sits at a throne at the end of a great pathway, awaiting a challenger to make it that far. there are some additional structures floating around. like the thunder palace, which is kinda a mini dungeon. you dont fully explore it, but you do get to see a good portion of what you need to see. there are these doors that lead to the other god like figures places of being. one of them leads you to the tutorial zone that you have the option of doing at the beginning of the game.
there is another dimension called the anomaly, which takes random stuff from all of time and space and mashes it all together in this weird and illogical world. there were experiments done that caused 6 anomaly pillars to appear throughout riften. interaction with the anomaly will result in horrific mutations. the only one who has ever explored the anomaly and survived was one of the super gods. they give you the ability to explore these areas and destroy the source of the corruption. once destroyed, you are instantly booted out into the normal world and the anomaly is gone. if you try to touch the anomaly before you get this ability, it will result in an instant game over.
i also thought of a shadow realm, but i think ill save it for another time.
ill get back to my character bios after a while. and no, its not kuz i wanna play more starcraft 2. for now, tell me what you think about my regions. i know for a fact that some of them need work still. i await your feedback.
Hey. I just want feedback on a plot I am working on for my game. I have been going through concept for a long time now and I am finally starting to get it onto RPG Maker VX Ace.
I was thinking of a boy who has been blessed by the gods as a sort of, "Chosen One". The world this boy is in is currently in a war with the people of Telara (The world) versus Vesemir (A Necromancer/Lich. Think of The Lich from Adventure Time). This war has been going on for 200 years with neither side gaining total victory until recently when the Necromancer's Crystal of Power has been taken by the Kingdom of Telara. With this and Lenny entering in his journey, Vesemir is now vulnerable to being slain and with that resulting an age of peace in Telara.
To extend the game and to also keep the seriousness off, I was thinking of a buddy system much like in Final Fantasy VII and also to have side antagonists. Those side antagonists will be like the minions or Generals of Vesemir's army.
Thanks guys and ANYfeedback is welcome. I want to make this game great without going so far and having it end up like garbage.
Looking for puzzle/event ideas. I will of course adapt them to my game.
SETTING: A heavily forested mountain (think of a national park). It is Summer, and it has been raining abundantly for the past week or so, making the climbing very treacherous.
OBJECTIVE: The player needs to make it to the summit with the help of 7 gnomes that inhabit said mountain.
WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR: I want to make it so each one of those gnome is tied to a puzzle or event that the player needs to complete in order to succeed. For example, one of them could help the player cross over some perilous rapids.
I need suggestions of fun situations to implement in this context.
Hey, so I want some feedback on the plot of my upcoming game, so this is the plot:
Plot: Josh and his Friends (Lillia and Kai) came back from finding the healer to cure his dad, only when they came back, the whole town was burned, it was burned into dust, Hallie (Josh's sister) said that they all are safe, with some heavy accidents with some.
Though that was just the beginning of something enormous, they find people who are trying to wake up an ancient evil that destroyed almost all the world, people, who want the power to rule the world, people, who want to get revenge from their destructive past, people, who want power, for something no body knows, just them. Go to an adventure to defeat this four groups of villains, go out of Mystfalls (The Continent they live in or refer as Region), and explore other places, and to find a whole world full of problems.
So right now i'm going to explain a little bit more the plot, because that was more of a narrative plot, so after Josh, Lillia and Kai return from Oceancove Town, they found out that all Moonreach was destroyed, with people going to a refugee, they started going there, only found a group of people, this group of people were the first villain group introduced, trying to wake up the ancient villain, that killed 80% of the world population on the chaos war (7 billion people in that time existed so big deal), only they are not the only villain group in town, there another villain group, trying for world domination (Though to be honest, this are the least you have to worry about), another villain group, that wants to get revenge of the people that hurt them, and finale the last group, a group that is composed of 1 person, this person wants an ancient power no body has ever heard off, they to go to other regions (Continents) with their own stories (Or as I call them, other games I may make), they meet the heroes, the villains of this regions, and go to an epic quest to stop the evil that just risen in Mystfalls and to uncover the tales of the past.
So yeh, imagine all those side quests in those 5 regions and maybe a group of islands still deciding that. So that all for the explanation.
Normally I make an effort to reply to peoples stuff here, but I've been pretty busy with Thanksgiving and work, but I have returned.
@Kuro DCupu I like the idea you have but what does the other character do while their sibling is doing chores. Its pretty cool to have two characters in that type of game though because they can each have unique relationships to other characters and the actions of one might affect the perception of the other or something
@gigaswardblade Your region names are a bit on the nose, but that's not really a bad thing. I do like the idea of insect people, but that sounds like a lot of sprites to make.
@St0rmSlaSh So is the Lich's crystal of power some form of phylactery? Also who is Lenny? They're just mentioned at the last minute.
@pandadodod One way to portray a character with trust issues it so have them, if they need to work with others, preform their task in a way that they'd be good even if everyone around them fails. An example of this is a character who chooses to be a jack of all trades instead of being a specialist. This way they're able to deal with any problem, but they're less useful than a specialist could be on a team.
@Anthony D I suppose you could always go with the classic "I need to cross this river" which could be solved by chopping down a tree for a bridge, but if you don't start with an ax you'll have to figure something out, heck you might need to say build some form of grappling hook and pull yourself across or throw it up to swing across. You may need to try something silly like pole vaulting across. Theres a lot of ways to play such a simple scenario.
@Jakegamer217 The plot sounds like a good scenario. Its not super innovative, but that doesn't really matter. It all comes down to execution and how enjoyable the characters are.
I to wanted to add a new feature called "Magi Moves" I don't think is not that innovative since it was taken before just a little more different in tons more of games, it's a way to clear obstacles, there is one called Opening Path, that opens secret paths, other that is Rockius Trombius, that destroyes rocks if its covering the way and Teleportius, with can just be use in some occacions, I believe it's a good idea, and it mostly comes down how to get them.
It comes down on getting them on dungeons, or trials, only the difference is, this can sound comfusing so clear you're minds for a second, The Magi Dungeons, the dungeons you can get magi moves, you don't actually practice the magi move you're getting, you practice the magi move that you got in another dungeon to enter. So I think is something more different, since tons of games mostly use the skill you earn in that dungeon, I want to use another skill instead, the Magi Dungeons are mostly Main, only are kinda side to, just in some aspects, mostly the Magi Moves are use to advance to other areas of the game, to continue the main story or other areas, so that mostly it's point. Though Magi Dungeons i'm planning they are hard to find. Sorry If I find comfusing, i'll stop now before I comfuse more people

I built upon that and put together a flooded terrain with which a gnome helped chop up trees so they would float down and "bridge" a pathway though it.
I need some of whatever you've been drinking for the last few weeks!
Although I love your awesome tutorials and always want more, I sure hope you're not going to burn yourself out.
Has anyone else ever thought about how the title of Gym Leader is usually hereditary? Usually the gym leaders child or sibling becomes the next gym leader. Not always, but usually. Pokémon nepotism
