If you can add anything to RPG Maker what would it be?

I would add the ability for RPG Maker Ace to be able to use XP Tileset image files too.

There are so many damn great tilesets for XP I want to use in my ace projects!!!

and I totally agree with Archeia!! Great suggestion!

I would almost pay $200 for a PC version of RPG Maker 2 with resource management aka import/export feature, unlocked memory cap, and a speedy release date.

The ability to define the size of our tilesheets, and the number of "pages" (A - E, currently) we can use. I always run out of room for tiles...

Also, the ability to define (using terrain tags) which tiles which vehicles can travel on.

Well, the my most desired feature going from VX to Ace was answered in the form of the Shadow Pen

*Snuggles the Shadow Pen* Oh how I love thee my tenebrous quill!

*clears throat* ahem. Pardon that.

Anyways, the things I feel that RPG Maker could benefit most from are more refined mapping controls. Another layer or two (or the ability to create layers a la photoshop style) and perhaps the ability to place tiles and events in quarter-tile intervals. In addition to this, it would be interesting to see the ability to "paint" event areas -- similarly to how we can paint regions -- in addition to the standard single-tile events. I feel that additions like these would benefit both new and long-time users alike, especially those who dislike or lack the knowledge to create parallax mapping.

Honestly, we should just have the ability to make parallax-like maps in-editor, but that could be difficult to get looking right and might difficult to save in small enough file sizes that are still easy for the system to read... so I can understand why we're still using a tile-based as opposed to a pixel-based system. Still, it would be interesting to have the feature as an option at some point in the future (as opposed to being the only way to map).

well, if they implement that, they will also need to implement pixel based movement, collision and maybe even events since right now every one of those is tile based and the engine extracts data from tiles too so those will be changed to extract data from pixel instead... I don't think it's hard to do, but I think it involves a bit more processing power... :)

I read every reply and here is what I found in them that I felt that I would want in RPG Maker.

Controllable 3 layer mapping and better autotiles. And a widescreen resolution that works.
Yes to this because well, although you could Parallax, its easier for some to 3 layer map (Also you would have to do less with Parallax Mapping if you had 3 layers).

Muffin button 8P
I love everything about this statement.

GPU Processing or at least use all cores for performance than just one core >_> ;
I was also unaware that it uses only one core, which is disappointing, I legitimately hope that in the next maker, it uses all cores if its currently only using one because that is just...awful.

I would add the ability for RPG Maker Ace to be able to use XP Tileset image files too.

There are so many damn great tilesets for XP I want to use in my ace projects!!!
I agree with this statement, for the love of god someone make this a reality. I mean the RTP alone is great but adding all the other tile sets previously made, and its just so... amazing. (This is probably just a preference).

IN ADDITION to all of this, I would want the starting RTP to be bigger, I suppose mostly because suppose RPG Maker 2015 or whatever it may be called comes out, in the beginning there would probably not be a lot of resources, and a bigger RTP not only makes more diverse games in the beginning it also allows for more resources to be created since one would have more bases. (Unless of Course that said RPG Maker were able to use XP and VX Tile-sets and Chara-sets, in which case this would be mostly irrelevant.)

Spelling and Grammar check.

Nice to have a grammar freak as a beta tester to make this up.

Multy player compatible!

I like single player games and all but you can only have so much fun by yourself before it gets dull..

Ability to controlling what tiles ships can walk on.

Animated scene BEFORE the title screen WITHOUT the need of a you install it script

Hmmmm...

The ability to port in a background graphic that can be used as the ground layer.

That way you could make the grass, roads, dirt look more organic.

Then use the tiles over that.

And it would free up some tile slots...

@Leonardo: We can already do that, it's called Parallax Mapping.

Hmmm...I may have to study more about that. I'm rather new and I've avoided the Parallax's because I couldn't get it to move with the map.

Get rid of the crazy single byte hardcoded map limitations:

1) unlimited regions

2) Every tile should be able to have its passsability settings set once placed on the map, without having to go through eventing and such.

3) Map layers - directly importable from Photoshop.

4) Built in mouse support - even if all it does is return the 'tile' or menu option that was clicked on.

5) More pages for tilesets (F, G, H, ...)

6) The ability to load an existing character into the character generator for adjustments: more facial expressions too, especially for females: half of them come out looking like wild-eyed vampire chicks or some such thing.

An independent .ogg player. As in, I'd like a miniature media player that works outside the editor.

Eh, that doesn't count, does it? I'd like some RTP resources that are in a non-anime style, just for variety's sake.

I think being able to have instances of an event would make creating certain types of puzzles easier. It would be useful for anything that you want to shoot projectiles repeatedly, or if you have lots of the same type of trap in a dungeon. If you ever need to change just ONE aspect of those 30 spike events, now you have to make that one change across all 30 spike events.

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
