Tsuki...
Look up "Japanese War Fan" on wiki. They weren't traditionally used in battle (fairly impractical), but they were often used in places where samurai could not carry traditional weapons and some swordsmanship schools actually taught students how to fight with the fans. There were several "war fans", but only "Tessen" were used in combat. Tessen were made of bamboo and iron. Traditional fans were used for cooling off or signaling your army. However, some fans called "Gunbai" were used by officers to ward off arrows during combat... They were also made of iron, but were larger than traditional fans or even Tessen.
Most games that use fans use the traditional "wood with decorated cloth" variety because it's prettier and more flashy for combat. It also lends itself better to fighting with female characters (which makes the weapon fairly sexist, by today's standards). Though, I suspect you're correct about Dynasty Warriors and other similar games popularizing the weapons themselves.
Still, it's interesting to learn about things like that ^_^

What weapon would I be? A dagger. A sharp and deadly implement used mostly for concealing how dangerous or well prepared you are. It's main function is typically for assassination by hitting vital points or arteries. It can also be used to deliver poisons and as an improvised ranged attack against almost anyone. Likewise, some daggers are small enough that a person could carry a fairly large quantity of them on their person or even conceal them in articles of clothing (boots and gloves, for example). The dagger, when used properly, is the strike you never see coming and only takes the one blow to put you down for good. The dagger doesn't need to be on the battlefield to win wars. The dagger can win wars without a fight by being in the right place a the right time.
That's me. More or less.
