In 1609 G.D., the continent of Escalon was cast into turmoil when high king Alexis the Third was betrayed by his most trusted advisor Caelmor. Eventually Caelmor's reign of terror was put to an end by Olivia Corin and her fellow heroes.

The story of Escalia starts 21 years after Caelmor's defeat and follows Fayhe Corin, Olivia's magically gifted daughter, and her friends Lumia and Seyfer as they find themselves in a series of unfortunate events that could spiral out of control quickly and will decide the fate of the whole continent.

A kind, somewhat naive young woman, in search for the true origins of her power to control the magical flows.

Fayhe's best friend. Overprotective, street-smart and wears her heart on her sleeve. Excels in close-quarter combat.

Seyfer.png

A thoughtful, idealistic knight, often viewed as cold and distant by others. The lone survivor of a tragic incident.

Makas.png

A young man with bravado, often hasty in his decisions. The heir to a legacy of prominent huntsmen.


Features.png
  • No random encounters!
  • Challenging enemies. Make sure to save often!
  • Challenging battle mechanics: Guard has different effects for each character, and is only usable once per battle!
  • Skill Synergies: Some skills will deal more damage or a guaranteed critical if a certain buff is applied!
  • Flavour texts! You can interact with some objects and learn more about Escalia's characters, or you can gain items.
  • Equipment Skills: Some of the best skills are only learnable by wearing your character's specific necklace. Make sure to find them to have access to some of the best skills available!
  • Fully parallaxed maps!
  • Quests! Also, optional sidequests.
  • Custom Sprites and portraits.
  • Custom Menu and Battle Hud.
  • An enthralling story, set in the same universe as my main game, Startide.

System
  • A new playable character.
  • Monsters finally respawn after 5 minutes of in-game time.
  • Monsters will run away once you’ve reached a certain level.
  • Added System category in the Menu.
  • Hover Alerts, if you get close to something that you can interact with, an icon will pop-up. This can be disabled in the Menu, under System.
  • Lootable sparkles removed.
  • Backtracking enabled.
  • Added tutorials (Accessible in the menu).
  • Added optional Battle tutorial.
  • Items gained from lootable objects are no longer random.
  • Changed prices of droppable items and added some new rare ones which are worth more.
Battle
  • Added HP bars for enemies.
  • Added State Icons for enemies.
  • Added Order Gauge.
  • Gave several skills and healing items priority.
  • Fixed the Scan screen.
  • Overhauled most abilities.
  • Added the possibility to look up Player and Enemy States in battle.
  • Added a 10% chance to not get knocked out once HP reaches 0. In the future this might be expanded with a Morale System, giving you (de)buffs.
  • Added graphics for Ambush/Pre-emptive strike.
  • Holder Entry Pose now works.
Maps
  • Seyfer has a home!
  • Some maps revisioned slightly.
  • Maps added to exit Aldwyn (though one currently cannot exit in this build).
Graphics
  • New Logo by Julianastorybored and eDeus.
  • Changed portraits of Seyfer, Olivia and Lumia slightly.
  • Several NPCs now have portraits.
  • New Icons made by Avery.
  • Battle Result screen has gotten a little overhaul, same for the Level-Up screen.
  • New menu and battle GUI, as well as new messageboxes.
  • Custom Magic font made by Unity.
  • Changed Game Over screen.
  • Minor modifications to some sprites.
Miscellaneous
  • Added a lot of flavortext.
  • Changed several dialogues and added new ones.
  • Changed the intro to clarify the situation a bit more.
  • New descriptions for playable characters and enemies.
  • New descriptions for Weapons/Armor.
  • Bad guys have names now. And backstories!
  • Several BGMs now loop.
  • Added new SFX.
  • New Game Over BGM.
  • Removed several scripts and added some new ones, including a visual novel styled message script.
  • Several bugfixes and collission problems fixed.

FuturePlans.png

The adventure of Fayhe, Lumia, Seyfer and Makas is not yet over! Escalia will be expanded to a fully fledged game.
In due time we might launch a ******* or Kickstarter to help with the funding, as there'll be quite a bit of (custom-made) assets we'd need to expand, for example custom (animated) enemy sprites.
Custom SFX/Music is also one of the things we're considering.

Graphically the game looks great. I particularly like that battleback, I imagine it makes for some subconsciously smooth transitions for the player in and out of battle.

Your list of features is pretty questionable though; there's only a couple I would consider passable as a 'feature' and the guard mechanic is the only one I would truly consider fitting for that list. Things like having a story or a graphical style is simply part of a game, and other things like 'no random encounters' are simply so prevalent that they don't serve as features. What I'm trying, and failing, to get across is that your features section should highlight the things that make your game stand out from the rest, not what make it a game.

Hmm I'm not sure if I agree 100%. Like, this is still an RPG Maker Game, most RPG Maker game don't end up using custom sprites/artwork/busts/tilesets and just go for you know.. RTP. So I feel that custom graphics is a feature that defines Escalia.

I've been stalking this thread for quite a while, looks great and very promising so far~

Gotta love the custom portraits, how you used Celianna's tiles, that very nice GUI and the fact that you use Matthew Pablo's tracks (he's an amazing composer), everything looks sexy. I'll add it in the game list of my signature if you don't mind (to give it more visibility).

Aside:  I love how being 20 years old basically makes him appear like the gruff 40 year old guy. He has pink hair, but his stubble is black ><

It must take at least a week to lower text three or four pixels!
The screenshots were posted a while ago, maybe they will fix it before the release but expect minor graphical glitches/inconsistencies in almost all entries :p

Okay, wow. Well excuse me for not lining it up properly, when I have a lot of bugs to solve and feedback to put into my game which is more important than 4 pixels :p


But hey, since it obviously breaks the game for you, I might fix it. Might ;)

Well, that's quite the graphics; you surely have a taste in mapping and arranging such decorations. The titlescreen is so breathtaking as well. Looking forward into the mechanics as well, since there are some promising stuffs I'd like to see myself.

It's surely a pleasure to support this project. Maybe I'll make a couple of Fayhe and Lumia's fanarts. I don't promise it, though :p

Just finished playing through the latest version. Oh my god, BCj, the break during the final boss fight is so flawless now. Gave me goosebumps with excitement even though I knew exactly what was going to happen. Cabbage is love, cabbage is life... or is that too much of a spoiler lol?
