@Paladin-Cleric of Awesome : What about extra features? I don't know what type of game it's exactly going to be, but I also see puzzles: perhaps a side area with extra puzzels, or a place to find out more about some parts of the world/plot/characters?

And as a side note: I'd love to be a beta tester :)

I began to layout our last planned room, the Queue of Horrors, today. It helped a lot to sketch out the enemy groups, and I couldn't resist finishing one of them :)
Might be the most fearsome, brutal enemy I've ever painted! Groooooar!

I just finished the bust for the last character. I... Am getting a lil bit overwhelmed by the game, but I'm sure it'll all work out... Somehow. Maybe I'll just focus on all the important cutscene maps first, and the exploration maps with battles and stuff can come later.

Got about two weeks left - hopefully everyone is budgeting their time accordingly!

The meat of the game is coming along nicely. The combat mechanics are nice and smooth, got a bit of polishing to do to make it a bit more organic and intuitive, but overall it should be pretty easy to pick up and run with.

Well, didn't do as much today either. Only really got the sketch done for one of the Boss forms and redid the bust for a Villager (as I realized I was short one( instead of all the other important things to do.
She's a bit of an homage to Chrono Trigger's Queen of Zeal but without the hands. Here's hoping to be done the busts come this weekend so I can just throw myself into the rest of the game making.

Congrats! Looks as if you're making really good progress. I hope all continues to go well for you.

On my game I'm still mapping the first map, it's quite a big one though so there's a lot of work to do. I love mapping most of all.

I'm so jealous off all your talents! I wish I could make art like that haha..

But I'm finally at the point where I can say that at least one part of my game is actually finished. Or at least ready to be tested.
It's the shop scene, which also dubs as the tutorial for the game(or well, one of the tutorials actually...). It was so much work getting the shopkeep explaining all the attacks, and such, but I think I did a pretty good job.

This was actually one of the major things I had to do for my entry. If this is working, all I need to do is script dungeons from this point onwards.
Maybe tweak the dungeon 'selection' a little, but we'll see if there is time for that :D

I have nothing special to show sadly, since I'm mostly using RTP standards, and it's not like my mapping skill is something to show off >.>
But I'm proud on what I have for now, and if anyone wants to give me honest feedback on this little scene, please let me know :>

I think I'm dropping out of the contest unless something really wonderful happens IRL. Too many IRL issues going on to really continue, which is a total bummer. I wish everyone a bug free entry, good luck, and happy game making!

@Faye Valentine Except the fairytale characters (who I just noticed are all ladies :aswt:), it's 50/50 actually. But I do tend to prefer female characters :)
@Paladin-Cleric of Awesome Congrats on finishing! I guess now it's that time to bugtest and polish. I'll definitely play it later, when I'm a bit closer to finishing myself.

I took a two day break, as I was too stressed from work. (Had an important deadline to meet today, but IT failed me, so I couldn’t do it anyway. At the very least I know it wasn’t on my end, but on the software’s end, so nothing to do but wait until it gets fixed. :/)

I never posted my progress from Sunday, so here it is:
  • Started and nearly finished Level 3. The only thing that still needs to be done is event Dorothy, as I couldn’t decide what bonuses/demerits she would have.
  • Implemented the particular customers for Level 4 (the royals and the Queen of Hearts).
  • Made the sprite for the tutorial fairy.
  • Recoloured a battleback so it would fit my map and could serve as a title screen.
Progress from yesterday:
  • Implemented Dorothy, so Level 3 is done.
  • Finished up Level 4.
  • Started and finished Level 5. (Still need to bugtest this one though)
Today's progress:
  • Added a few extra (Yanfly) plugins, such as a gold window, gab windows and credits button.
  • Added the chairs' upgrade bonus (+50% gold).
  • Added 4 of the 5 bad endings. They are just a little scene before the Game Over screen, when you fail the level.
  • Mapped an office. This is where the good and final bad ending take place.
  • Made some tile edits and edits to the already existing maps. I also started adding NPCs.
I'm hoping to finish eventing the cutscenes at the end of the week. :)

Well, clearly I have been overdoing it a bit because I got sick. :rswt Hopefully (now that I've rested for a bit and don't feel completely out of it) I can cram everything that needs done over Thanksgiving break (I do get a good portion of the week off, but I'm guessing most of it will be spent with family because of the holiday) Though, do to being mostly bedridden and having nothing better to do, I did get pretty far into A Link Between Worlds finally. (Not that that was a goal... or a good use of time)
If I do have to drop out, I'll probably just take the time to play everyone else's entries. That and work on my long term projects that I should try to get finished.

Short update again today, still not feeling the best, so just messed around with what the characters would look like in the larger sprite size. Mostly just some quick edits though. If I do decide to change all the sprites, they'll be like these although I do have to do a lot for a few characters because of story reasons

Shortish update! But I've finished all my maps (will go back and draw them in my style but I wanted to use stock stuff for eventing purposes) and I've finished all my puzzles for the main room! They're pretty simple but still, I hope they provide a kind of challenge...! I can't wait to see what everyone else has come up with!

Things I accomplished today:
  • Created basic bathroom tiles
  • Fixed some bugs
  • Cut out unnecessary planned story parts
  • Removed unnecessary gameplay features
  • Created broken glass tiles
  • Implemented new cutscenes
I am planning to start building the game's itch page and thinking of title art, title design, game font and demo length. The demo will most likely not be complete by the deadline, so I'll release it as early access.

Also thinking of finally showing off some screenshots over the weekend! :kaojoy:

I have been slacking so bad on game dev. I mean at some point it doesn't even feel like slacking, it's just.. my motivation to do much of ANYTHING in the creative space dried up. Maybe I needed the recharge, I dunno.

In any case, the goal for what's left of November for me is to get stuck back into things. Re-familiarize myself with where I left off and all that so I can gear up and go hard for the month of December. @_@;;

@Paladin-Cleric of Awesome Congratulations on finishing early! Don't see many games with a Mayanesque theme. Sounds like a lot of fun. Will play it after the contest ends and free time returns. :p

Finishing early will give you the advantage of getting it play tested. I remember how in past contests there were all these promising games which died due to too many errors. It's a real shame. Hopefully our entry gets some play testing time too before the contest ends.

@slimmmeiske2 What? Your game's got Dorothy? Will definitely play! I don't think I've ever played a game with Dorothy. Alice seems to show up more often in games. Fairy tale characters are always interesting. I wanted to do a fairy tale game too but didn't know where to go with the idea, oh well. Maybe another time. :kaohi:

I've made a big emphasis on visually representing things to make the game as accessible as possible.

Grimoires will consist of 5 - 10 pages of skills (still finalizing that max number)

Since each actor is able to take multiple actions per turn, each skill will cost 1-5 pages
This prevents more powerful skills from being uber spammed during an actors turn.
Cats are so easy. I noticed the gray one would never nap in the office while I worked, so I put a blanket on the spare chair in here and now she won't leave.
