We are not. Im starting from scratch event by event because I couldn't get it to get the original idea to work. Its just the idea of it, not the actual mechanic or materials. For this competition you must start a whole new project. Ill pm you more details since we cant talk about the rules here

I'm still deciding whether I want to participate in the contest and give this a go or not. I have some reasons as to why I'm thinking this way, but I'm hoping to give it a go. So deciding is my current goal, but if I decide yes then my goal will become to finish a game with one hour content in time for submitting to the 2018 indie game making contest.

I will do what I do every IGMC: Nothing for it. xD Good luck to everyone participating though!

    My November goals:
    • continue trying to work at least three days per week on my project
    • try to get into a situation where my time management gets improved
    • prose/drawing goal the same as in October
    • nice to have: layout of Ned's tiny shared apartment

Okay, I think I'm going to join IGMC this month just for the kick of it since I never been in one before.
I know I don't have much free time, so I'll just work on a small game by myself and not bother anyone. If I can post a game at the end I'll be happy. :kaothx: Good thing I can edit rtp for this, maybe I'll have a number of new things to share on my MV res post once I'm done.

I'm gonna try and join the IGMC. :)
Last year I met my goal of just finishing a game. This year I want to finish a qualifying game. (Last year's got DQed due to a font bug.)

I haven't decided what to do though. I've still got three ideas in the running. :kaodes:

Good luck to everyone! It's that time of year where I live completely off of caffeine, so psyched! :kaojoy:

I'll be entering this year with my awesome team from last year (@Plueschkatze, @futrchamp, & @Gabrelik ), and this time we'll actually remember to include gameplay. :kaoswt2: Our first goal (besides deciding on what game to make) is to figure out the gameplay and get it working in MV.

    @bgillisp I didn't know you were entering. :) Good luck, it's tough going solo ^^;

@hiddenone I did enjoy Dear Edwin a lot, but there was a lot of text. :p I think if it had been tagged as Adventure/Visual Novel most people wouldn't have commented on the gameplay. Anyway, I'm already looking forward to you guys' entry. :kaoluv:

My goal is to actually submit my game to the contest this time! And since I know how submitting works now I just have to worry about actually making a game... On time. And let's get greedy and hope I'll be able to avoid last minute panic crunch this time.

I fnally have my idea sorted. I'm just waiting for 12 so I can start!
I think Ii might be in with a chance. I have, what I consider, an interesting art style for once, and I hope the game will be considered different enough to attract some attention!

Going Solo is hard, especially when you arn;t good at certain aspects of game making (my failures are art and databasing and enemy balancing), but finding a team can be hard too. I wouldn't even know how to work with a team for gaming. lol.

Anyway. I wish everyone luck competeing and completeing your goals!

    My goals start at midnight!

I was actually planning on being a bit of a "rebel" for nanowrimo this year and work on a game instead, but this is a bit of a better excuse reason. I'm leaning towards doing a bit of a more generic RPG just to get something out, though I do have a few other ideas. My only goal is to have something to submit, so I don't really care if it ends up being a cheesy over the top mess (I'll learn something, which is what counts)
Thankfully I don't have anything all that pressing tomorrow (and tend to have insomnia anyway) so I'll probably be able to get all the initial stuff figured out after it actually starts.

Well, here's how my day for the next month will be going!

    Work, of course.
Crunch with YouTube in the background.
    MANDATORY FUN TIME.
Crunch again with favorite streamer in the background.
    Play contest entries.

In other words, the usual. :kaopride:
Except for that last part, but only because it's specific to the IGMC.
I shall dub it optional fun time, because it'll be midnight by then!

I'm reviewing every game I play, but I'm not a judge so I won't be checking out all games nor will I be giving scores.
My focus is on technical points only, such as gameplay improvements, bugs, typos, etc.
    No judgement, just help.
Even if the story and dialogue are the scum under the bottom of the scum under the bottom of the barrel,
I will only comment if it cannot be understood.

Additionally, I won't be choosing every game that looks good. I probably don't have that much time. :kaoswt:
I'll be playing everything that immediately catches my eye, regardless if it's a masterpiece or an obvious troll game.
Yes, there will be situations where I choose a bogus entry over a deserving one...
    That's life!

Games are getting easier and harder to make every passing year; I expect 2018 to be one to remember. :kaohi:

With that, I leave you this tune we can all dance to.

Woooohoooo! Today's the day, IGMC2018 will start.

I'm happy to work with @hiddenone, @futrchamp and @Gabrelik again. This will be SO MUCH fun. They are such lovely people. :kaojoy:
I plan to put a ton of time and effort into this one.

For this year we decided to focus more on gameplay, while still keeping a nice story and dialogues in mind. Over the past weekend we did some brainstorming, settled on an idea and are now ready to flesh it out and start doing the basic eventing for the mechanics we wish to include.

    Today I'll:
    - Collect everything we brainstormed and make a google doc that includes a much cleaner version of all that. Aswell as some nice inspiration collages/mood boards.
    - Start setting up a project, importing plugins and start eventing some of the mechanics I can't wait to see working!

As I'm in a different time zone than the rest of the team, I always have a headstart on the day, so I can spam my team mates with stuff so they find new stuff when they wake up and they can spam me the following night, so I wake up to a ton of new stuff! XD It's like christmas!
    (At least for me!) :kaojoy:

I hope everyone will have a great time! Please keep your health in mind and take breaks, eat, drink aaaand, for the sake of your sanity... do backups.

    - Plue

I've missed so much this past year with the job change, move across country, and all the ups and downs in between. I've been slowly getting back to my routine, and IGMC is the perfect opportunity to return to habit and get back to good. :) The group of people I had the privilege to work with last year on Dear Edwin have become good friends, and I couldn't imagine a better team going into this project.

As @Plueschkatze and @hiddenone said before, they, @futrchamp , and myself have been gearing up to put together an amazing concept that we are sure you are all going to love. We learned from the feedback you were all so wonderful to leave on Edwin, and will be implementing those perspectives as we move forward.

This is rapidly becoming one of my favorite times of the year for this community, and I am so thankful to Degica and the RM staff for bringing this event back to us so soon. There were some absolutely amazing submissions last year, and I've been happy to see that potential blossom since then. I'm looking forward to working with all of you again, and honestly can't wait to see what you put out!

Don't forget to trust in your project. Even if you don't feel it is up to par, build it anyway. Submit it, anyway. Even if it's your first project or first time doing a game jam, you'll be blown away by the experience you'll gain and the fun you'll have. The latter is the most important part. Don't shut yourself down before you have a chance to shine. :D

    Happy making, everybody!

UPDATE 1 -because I don't think I'll have time later to do this!

Day one of the IGMC (Indie Game Making Contest) 2018.

I thought long and hard on what I should do, and finally decided on A Witches Heart, a game idea I had which started life as some of its history.

    “Healer (The Backstory)

A magical plague had swept the land, and there is no cure for it. The high use of magic in this valley in the past has opened the rifts to allow far worse than the usual monsters into the valley. The young Prince, safe in his castle cannot stand to see his people suffer any longer, and against his father’s wishes he leaves the castle to find the cure.

But the only way to cure the plague is to give up his life. The King, upon hearing of his beloved sons sacrifice bans all use of magic in the land, and founds the Witchfinders to find anyone in the Valley using magic and to stop them by any means necessary.”

This story then mutated into a completely different tale about a young woman going on a quest to save her younger sister from certain death at the hands of the Witchfinders. And while this take would be interesting, and I may go back and do this at some point, I had decided I wanted to try something slightly different that could tell the story of these sisters, and reference the original tale, but gave the player more of a chance to insert themselves into the story.

Hence ‘A Witches Heart’, where the player will take on the role of a simple villager trying to save their village from the growing threat of monsters from the Abyss appearing through Magical Rifts into the land, all originating from the Witchfinders Keep.

    So I have been working hard today and have some interesting things to show you;

Yes! The entire intro into the Game! I worked hard on the art, and while I know it’s not the greatest artwork, I feel it really fits the Ancient civilisation vibe I wanted for the game! Thank goodness for Celianna’s Great Jungle tileset and the Aztec character set provided by Degica Games, which allowed me to have a completely different fantasy theme for my game.

One I hope that will make this game seem different enough to grasp your attention, so that the story can hold you until the end. And I hope I do the game justice, so that everyone who gives it a go will enjoy it!

    Progress Update!

Day one has been successful. I have fully outlined the story I want to tell with my entry, along with the first-draft dialogue and scene directions. I'll have my wife read through it and give feedback this evening.

I decided to try something different in terms of story. I remember reading a challenge somewhere to make a game where the character you control is not the main character, and instead the main character is actually an NPC. It's an intriguing concept and hopefully it will pan out.

I am going for a more intimate story as opposed to something sweeping and political. The story will focus around escorting an aging King on one last journey to visit a place of great sentimental value to him. There's more to it, of course, but don't want to spoil things for potential players :)

I am going to have to start going through my music collection for appropriate themes and songs. Not worried about the graphics at all. Did make a few unique characters for this game which I will probably release for free once this is all done. I am going to cannibalize the combat system from my last year's entry which had a lot of promise but lacked the time to really bring it up to snuff. I've added several key improvements to make the player experience easier and more intuitive to handle. Going to redo a bunch of the base mechanics as well to give a different experience, too.

Something similar was done in Infinite undiscovery, where you had control of only one character, and he wasn't even the main character (until halfway through the game). it was very well done, so if you can do something like it I'd be impressed. (it's one of my fav games!)
