Hello there people of the development thread!
After a long year of basically working on my game full time, I've learned THREE things.
1. Game developing makes your back hurt.
2. Hot pockets are your best friend.
3. Writing is DIFFICULT at times.

If I didn't have to do writing, I bet I would be near done my project by now...

In all seriousness, I am extremely happy to be over half way done my first project.
I've toned up the demo MULTIPLE times and fixed countless bugs so it is playable, error after error.

Let's take a look at an image of how far we've come over the year.

Before and after

If I may say so myself, I'd say that's some scenery progress, for sure!
There has been numerous updates revolving details of what is to come, but not TOO much information has been given that takes place after the demo.

The updates involved things such as:

Custom Skills -
Custom hud -
Hidden Content -
Story line implementation -
GUI work -
Many scripts -
many busts and animations
and so much more.

New demo download at front page.

This patch updates
Dialogue changes and touch ups-
Added name box above dialogue box-
Font change-
Minor and major bug fixes with crashes and game progression issues-

As of this moment, I don't know of any bugs in the game currently that are game breaking, so if anybody spots any, be sure to let me know! :)

I hope to meet some awesome folks here on this part of the forums, and I am looking forward to receiving some feedback.

Cheers!

I downloaded the demo, and was only able to play a few minutes into it before opting to quit. I'm having problems with the game's performance, it's averaging about 7-9 FPS, which is borderline unplayable. I'm playing on a laptop that doesn't seem to have trouble with other RPG maker games; it's nothing high-end, but it is less than a year old. Depending on who your target audience is, this is something you may want to consider. A lot of players who seek RPG maker games don't often have high-end gaming computers. Giving the player the option to toggle off some of the performance draining eye-candy would help keep your game accessible. I'm not sure what's causing the lag, it may be the lighting/fog script that's being used, but I figured I'd let you know how my experience went.

I love the art direction, and the music was really well done. The opening dream sequence is a perfect hook for the player. The game grinds to a halt when you wake up, and are forced to have a mundane breakfast with your family before you can get to the good part. If you insist on keeping this, I'd rather see the dialogue sequence be cut down, or give us the option to skip breakfast all together... I was sadly disappointed when mom wouldn't let me leave the house before eating. I'm assuming we won't be seeing much of Mom and Sis after the game gets started anyways, given the "we're not in Kansas anymore" kind of vibe that happens when you wander into the forest. I wasn't able to proceed much further than that unfortunately, but I'd recommend anyone with a decent computer to check this out. I can tell there's been a lot of polish and attention to detail put in here.

Yeah Ace, I've received note actually about a week ago that somebody else was having the same issue with FPS drop, I am absolutely looking in to everything I can possibly do to fix this, as EVERY gamer should be able to run RPG maker, -_-.
It's on my priority list, absolutely agree with you there, man.

I can look in to adding skip cut scenes, I did a while back but decided to hold off on it. I will look in to doing this for the demo as soon as I get a fix for the low fps.

I'm glad you did like some of the game although, thank you for trying it and letting me know how your experience went. - and the compliments on top of that, i appreciate it! :)
-continues on a fix-

Yeah man I have some FPS issue too... but this won't cover this GEM even a lil bit. Story, character, graphic. Just dandy.

Thanks a lot my friend. :)
I appreciate that very much, I've put a lot of hard work in to it so far so it means a lot.
I've been working freaking steady for the last few days HARD on a fix for the fps, I think I've got it panned out quite a bit and it should be a much more pleasant experience playing.
I have a friend who has been working hard with me on testing it on his lower end laptop, and we've managed to get Ignarus' performance to 7-10 fps, yes 7-10 fps. To a much more steady 19-21, I know it doesn't sound amazing, but remember this is on a very, cheap, old and out dated laptop he is playing it on, and it is about triple the output he is receiving now, and he is actually quite content with that considering his laptops specs.
So I would like to say it was a victory?....
I will have to let some of the players test it I suppose. :p

I completely changed the lighting, and found Multiple reasons for lag to appear in some maps, it should be tons better as well.

Here is the demo link,. click HERE or click the the download link at the top of the front page.

It looks really cool, the art style is really consistent, I have a gaming PC so im not having much lag issues, and I really like that classy panther! Also nice work with that UI, a lot of people around doesn't work really good with those but you did a nice job.
I'm interested in what you're going to do next, keep the good work.

Hey thanks. yeah I tried to keep the art style of the sprites as consistent as possible with some unique to them. I'm glad you like Tinsel. :) He's an interesting character, indeed! :p

Production has slowed down slightly over the past few days/week but it will begin to pick up right away, I am just starting to get a little more help with the development of the story and dialogue and other things will begin to come quicker than usual. So that's great.

Update -
With the Swamp cave's dungeon completed, I am able to move forward with development in the story. Things are heating up a little bit in the darker world of Tartarus. Elias is going to be introduced to the antagonist, but it seems like this man knows a little more about you than you do about him... How does this man know who Elias is? What could possibly be his reasoning behind knowing him?

On top of that, while in the 2nd dungeon you receive the Hammer, which really opens the door to explore the world and find secrets.

One image I can give to show is of the new dungeon called "Dark Void" - It is completely subject to change appearance-wise, but so far, I think this dungeon is looking not too bad, at this point.
Thevoid.png

Other Updates.
Lag decrease
1 crash fix
Minor detail updates
Map fixes and tweaks.
Walkable areas that shouldn't be accesable decreased.
*NEW* swimming animation, plus more in progress.
A couple songs work in progress.
Map development.

I've got a bunch of other content in progress so I will be making some gifs and have a lot more pictures to show whats been in development over the past month.
-Cheers- Try the demo, it should be getting VERY clear of bugs at this point. :)

Nice to see a game that claims LttP as an inspiration...and GENUINELY LOOKS inspired by it! XD

(most games claim to be inspired by the greats, but rarely show it)

will edit this post once I've tried your demo.

Hello everybody!! It seems like it's been a while... So I feel like it's time I posted a progress update.
Let's begin with some demo changes.

Demo
Intro area slightly changed for better benefit of tutorials.
First encounter with the shadow has been adjusted and shouldn't be overlapped so much.
Town now an accessible and is part of the story progression.
Dialogue changes and fixes. Dialogue is now less of an info dump I feel, and much more "get to the point."
Lots of event fixes.
I've made decisions and have decided to avoid creating form(s) for Protagonist for a few reasons...
New characters/sprites added to the game.
Maps have been tuned up, whether it be more detail, or objects to interact with.
Asena boss made slightly easier.
*New* Weapon to discover in Bitruus Forest dungeon.
Not able to pick up grapes or apples? No problem, anymore!

New content
SEVERAL maps have been created for the World.
1 dungeon implemented in the past, 1 currently in progress.
The world of Tartarus holds a town as well, It's currently a work in progress.
Story plot progress.
Many dialogue additions

Town within Invertus in progress.
3rd dungeon still a work in progress.
Mountainous area a work in progress.
A lot on the go - But I'm trying to stick with one thing at a time, it's hard.

Quick explanation how story progress will work in Ignarus.

After the Demo, you are available to explore the "World map". This consists of multiple different maps within a world to traverse and get the hang of.
To make ones way across the world of Tartarus, skills and weaponry will be acquired by doing dungeons and defeating bosses.
You will acquire accessories such as the Swimming gear to get through water, or magic skills to help in a situation where an element might come in handy.

*The new demo will be available in probably the next month or so, as a little more content will be coming, and I'd rather just get the demo 100% complete and continue working on progress of the game until then.*

*BUGS* One person was having problems loading up the game when it was downloaded - If this occurs in the future, please contact me.

Thanks for reading!

Hey there everybody, it is I, Kudaaj!! I am alive and well, It's been quite some time!... man oh man, I've been busy..not only with the game, but with a new job,
It unfortunatley just means the game is going to take a little longer than expected.. There is some pros to this though. I feel as if I will put more thought in to story line progression and come up with more genuine ideas/puzzles while I get small bursts of breaks in between work and my game developing.
On top of that, I will be making money to have more custom things such as scripts and sprites and artwork for the game. :D

- Update Info -
Changed "Jump spots" and "Hidden Items" mechanic - Rather than being visually on screen with a star, they are now visible with a "?" as you walk near them.
Enemy Balancing for demo.
Major Dialogue changes.
New equipment to be found in demo.
Story progress
Stamina re-implemented for combat, not sprint.
New areas/Maps in progress.

New skills with mechanics being implemented -

Arctic Frost
Haste (Debating)
Tenebris Blade

Hello everyone, It's update time!
We are one more version away from the final Demo. So now is the time to get the Demo and try it out, because the FINAL version is going to be a lot shorter!

It's been a busy while with work, but I've been able to keep up with game development and progress a lot to the story/gameplay post-demo, as well as do major touch ups in the demo portion.

Map overlay changes, Fog, forest, clouds.

Dialogue changes,
adjustments/shortening made for quicker progression purposes.
Silent protagonist - Rather than speaking, the Protagonist uses only "speech bubbles" and "choices." When interacting with objects, he "Thinks" in brackets.

More Secrets/interactions

Weapon hidden somewhere for trial.

Skill hidden somewhere for trial.

Potions removed, now fill a one time use jar full of "Tree Sap." for difficulty improvement.

Stamina Bar, no more spamming the attack button, strategy is now an important factor to each opponent until you can sufficiently defeat them with brute force .

Boss difficulty increased. Becomes exponentially easier with each level up.

New events, and more.

I could go on about what's been added, but it's best to just try it out now for yourselves while there is a whole "dungeon" to explore before I decrease the demo length.
Enjoy, and let me know if you find any problems/bugs of the sort.

Hello everybody, it's been quite a while it seems since i've released an update. I feel it is about that time to give a little bit of an update about now, so I'll try to cover as much as I can here because, yeah it's been a while since I've done an update, and I've done a lot of stuff.

Visuals Not a WHOLE lot was done in the visual department.

New boss in progress The new boss lurks down in the deepest depths of a catacomb-like dungeon where humans are led to believe a hope of escaping of the dark world Tartarus is held there.
A deceiving and disturbingly featured fellow recommends you to search in there for your lost friend, Jarren. ( Images coming later)
Does this mysteriously disfigured monster have good intentions? Or is he looking for one more opportunity to make dispose of yet, another human.

That's about all I have to add for this update, I hope to get more updates a liiitttle more quickly for the future, but hey....Life.

I really appreciate the compliments and the criticism when it is appointed, It helps improve the game and makes me more aware of things that require attention, so in thanks, to everyone for the comments and compliments!
We're one update closer to Ignarus' release!

I'm always pretty amazed to see RPG Maker games that actually deliver on the promise to be "Zelda-like." Love the hack-n-slash battle system you've got here, and the maps I've seen so far show a great range.

It's been a LONG while since I posted a bit of an update. I have been slacking in the update department. But what with all the RL stuff going on I haven't had time to do so whilst working on Ignarus.

So, today I will be releasing the original alpha test demo but with more updated content and reworked sprites/maps.

Download it here!

There are a few little things that are still subject to change, such as dialogue in minor ways.
Otherwise this is an almost complete version of the alpha test demo.

I hope those who try it have no issues, and enjoy it. :) If there is ANY problems. Just hit me back in a message or post on here.

The battle system is exactly how I was trying to make my game but it was so difficult that I gave up. I used Falcao Pearl ABS, which any support for has died years ago. What ABS scripts did you use for this game, if you don't mind my asking?
Overall, the graphics, the character art/sprites, the music, and the action is quite amazing, especially for RPG Maker. Well done, man!

MULTIPLE bug fixes have been addressed since the previous test demo version last week.
A new version of the demo has been uploaded HERE.

Adjusted Jump.
Adjusted Attack swing.
Mapping fixes.
Minor dialogue grammatical errors.
Sprite idle animations for townsfolk
And so much more fixed, it's worth getting a play through now that it is far more optimized.
Cheers all and Happy holidays!
