ok, so...
Basically, I thought I wasn't going to update to RPG Maker MV and keep using VX Ace, because it apparently had everything I thought I needed, but long story short I purchased MV and haven't been able to put it down.
The smartest thing is the switch to javascript. Using ruby was a chore, but now it's like you can reverse engineer the entire program. It's pretty generous if you ask me, because a programmer could easily just learn the code and create their own maker from what's there.
Learning javascript is also a good prerequisite for moving over to unity or another engine later as well, and the language is used pretty much everywhere. I remember dreading the use of javascript when it was just working with just input and output of html. Now, basically everything that was wrong with RPG Maker VX Ace, for me, has been corrected. Fullscreen support, ability to change resolutions, access to all of the core functions, direct access to the PIXI.js library, it's like everything that someone could ask for in an RPG Maker.
I've been asked so far why I'm using RPG Maker MV when I could use a tool like Unity, as I'm trying to create an adventure game with it...for me what I really like is to create stories with lots of dialogue and voice acting so what RPG Maker does for me is act as a tool that I can use to manipulate characters and objects on a grid really quickly. It's like an in-game cutscene creator. The key, for me, is speed of development. Programming a demo from scratch would take much more time. Yanfly's message core and system core scripts work really well, and all of the other plugins that you can find on this website just make the whole thing incredibly fast. It's allowing me to focus more on painting artwork and story.
All in all I would really like to thank Enterbrain because the decisions that were made now to port every single RPG Maker to english officially and to create this new one using html5/javascript are really going to allow a lot more artists to get their work out to the world.
So that's my love letter to them and everything, now about my addiction...I haven't really gotten much sleep in the last 7 days that I've had this program...so...yeah...
