Is it better to scale the image (in a case of a background) down to the exact resolution of the game, or have it bigger and have the game scale it. Of course, scaling the image to the game resolution would be better if you play at that resolution, but the question is valid when you actually increase the game's box size (Example when you fullscreen).

When you increase the game's window size, will bigger images benefit from it, or will it just be the game's default resolution sized up to the current resolution?

This is not a discussion question, more a factual one about resources and how they are handled.

As you do not specify which engine you are using (it would be extremely helpful if you could include that in the info under your avatar) I cannot move this to the correct forum.

Would you please post, stating which engine you are using.

The answer may vary depending on the engine, but in Ace, if the picture is larger than the size resolution, then the game does not scale it. You simply don't see part of the picture. So the first part of your question is not applicable.

If you go to full screen, it is just the game's resolution just sized up.

But maybe it's different for e.g. MV. Which is why this needs to be in the correct Support forum.

I'll bump this since I no one seems to have answered for RPG Maker MV specifically.

@Super-User Again, I thank you for your enthusiasm, but the question is not about how to do that (since any basic programmer can do that easily). The question is about the quality of the in-game image scaling algorithm versus one of an external image editor like photoshop or gimp.

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
