Importance of Literal Equipment

Would it bother you if an rpg doesn't have standard equipment pools (tiered armor and weapons)?

I don't know, I'd rater have a game where the difficulty is deciding what to do when you have all the informations (this boss uses both attacks and poison: do I equip the accessory which protects me from poison, or the one which helps me defend against attacks?), rather than finding the informations themselves (did I check every room for possible hints towards what I should equip against this boss?).

It's a personal preference, though. Let's say I like tactical gameplay more than exploration.

(And personally, I think a bonus of 5% to anything is entirely forgettable. I'd rather have less pieces of equipment, but with much more impactful abilities. Like, "without this, you're not able to target flying enemies with normal attacks at all", or "this completely protects you from this often-used status", "this multiplies the strength of your fire magic by 150% or even 200%", etc.)

The 5% EVA was simply an example, but in terms of being noticed, 5% rates tend to be when you infact do notice differences. I have a long standing habit of crunching numbers in MMO's. But regardless, at the end of the day it comes down to preference. I like tactical gameplay as well. I just don't feel that the armor I equipt should play as heavily into the tactics as much as the abilities and skills that I use. I would aim for, "water spell, state wet, thunder spell, 200% DMG" over a 200% fire modifier equipt. And 200% Fire Magic on an equipt? Then your baseline had better be very low. Or the item requires you sacrifice one of your children in order to equipt it. Ironicly enough I would literaly prefer the fire modifier over the combination spell in gameplay. Cause I'd be p0wnin faces with 200% fire damage lol.  :p I'm just saying, theory crafting aside, games have to be tough to a degree. Or else why play? ^^

A good way of making 'equipment' worthwhile is to have something similar to FF VII's Materia (reskinned to fit your world: alchemical treatments or enchantments seem like the way to go with your set-up) that will allow you to make more interesting differences than a Lv 8 Sword.

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
