Importing maps

I recently downloaded some maps via the workshop and i cant get them into my game no matter what i do. i tried looking at the old post about this but it didn't help at all. please someone help, i'm really confused.

For importing maps in my games, usually, I create some empty maps, and then save. Take the ID numbers of that map, then change the name in the ID of the maps that I want to import, then move them in the Data folder.

I've tried that and it doesn't do anything. Does it have something to do with the sample maps i have? i've made empty maps, saved, changed the name of the map i wanna import to match and nothing happens, it stays empty in the editor. and when i move the map to the data folder the icon for it stays blank

change your map id to map001 (map082 to map001)

81, this isn't really a project, i just keep it as a test area for new things i learn. these are from that vxan mega map pack on steam

As for the importing problem, you have to create a map with that id first in the game, then import the map into the game. This is because there is a file which keeps track of the order of the maps in your database, and that map id has to exist before you can import any maps with that id. So create a map with that id (which may require you to create many maps, as maps are created in numerical order), then overwrite the map in your project with the map you wish to import.


Also make sure your project isn't open when you do this. And also you may wish to back up your project in case you overwrite the wrong map.

Um ... why do you have some screenshots from MV and some from Ace?  You cannot import maps from MV into Ace - they are different engines, different file types, different structures.

Ah, that explains it.


Okay - look at that screenshot showing the files in the folders.  In the first one, it says it's a VX Ace data file, and the icon is correct.  But when you look at the second screenshot, with the 82 files, that icon is different - it looks like it's lost its extension somehow.  Can you change the folder view to Details and set it to show file extensions?


Also, already mentioned ... if you're going to call it Map082, then you need to have 82 maps in your project.  If you only have 2 maps and you want this to be the second map, close the editor, delete Map002, and rename Map082 to Map002.  Make sure it has an extension of .rvdata2.  Then open the project back up again and it should be there.


Note if it uses a tileset you do not have, or even if it uses different tileset slots in the Tileset tab, it will not look right when you open it up.
