In Media Res?

Hi!

I've just purchased RPG Maker VX Ace, and having fiddled around a bit, have a question I can't find an answer for.

I'm wanting to start in media res (in the middle) of my story, then go backwards.

For this I have my characters stats maxed out, and need to give him a beyond powerful weapon.

I've already figured out how to make the character he'll battle an event and all of that, but I need to know how to make that character able to have the weapon in his inventory when I start the game for the first time. I've created a special class for him, and made an individual sword that's maxed out.

Do you want him to have the weapon in inventory, or to have it equipped? If you want him to actually have it equipped, just set it up as his starting equipment in the Actors tab. If you really want it just in inventory so it has to be equipped, create a parallel process event on your starting map that does a Change Weapons command to add it. Then make it turn on a self switch, and add a second page conditioned by that self switch (so it won't keep giving the weapon all the time).


This is how you do most of your start-of-game setup that can't be done in the database - a simple event that runs automatically on the first map, once only.

Page 1 on the Event Commands has sections for Party and Actor that can change all those details. As Shaz said, you probably want to set your character's stats to max in the database and start him off with the endgame equipment in the Starting Equipment section of the Actors tab. Then use an event to do the following things once the in media res intro is over:

1) Change Level - reset to level 1 or whatever the character starts his journey at.

2) Change Skills - remove all the godly skills he gets by the end of the journey

3) Change Equipment - remove the amazing equipment you gave him

4) Change Items - Make sure all the cool stuff you gave him is taken away so his inventory is set to nothing

Then just Transfer Player to the actual beginning of the game and set him on his adventure.

Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
