Hey y'all! This is my first post here--agh! So, forgive me if I'm completely stupid for posting this here because it is so early in development! I have a bunch of concept art and almost official artwork for you guys to see, though. AAAaaAAaand I need a LOT of feedback! I need ideas and criticism! Lol.

This project is really near and dear to my heart. When my siblings and I were on vacation, we discussed which class we would be in an RPG game. I thought that the concept was so fun and so cool. I wanted to make that game! So, the characters are based off of me, my siblings, our spouses, etc. The characters have our names! My direction for this game is going to be sort of...like, Fire Emblem meets Kirby meets Mario? I want it to be in a sort of old-time, yet future setting. Sort of hyper-realism. It's confusing, but it will make sense in the end, I promise!

Mods, if you feel like this would better beyond in the art/literature section, then please move it!

I'm going to be using RMMV for this project. I honestly just found out about this program! The last I heard was VX, and I'm SOOO glad MV can work on Mac so I don't have to use my PC! lol. Do y'all think there are enough scripts and/or resources for MV to proceed with the project in this program at this point? Let me know in the comments!

Oh, yes! The story...So, here's the skinny.

Our story opens with Queen Auburn (pictured below), a queen who loves all things sparkly and shiny, with her suitor (name pending) in an ancient tomb. There is a war going on between Auburn and King Levi of the neighboring kingdom. Auburn (under her suitor's nudging) has decided to awaken an ancient demon to utilize its power and take over the entire land. Her plan, however, goes awry when the ancient evil demon, Sybil, is awakened and goes out of control. Auburn and her suitor flee to safety so they can decide what to do about this.

Cut to King Levi, the black mage, in his castle. He is talking with his right hand woman, Bekah, who is discussing with Levi how to get the purest white mage and utilize his powers to defeat Auburn and take over the land. Levi demands that Bekah and his henchmen immediately seize the white mage so that Levi may harness his powers.

Then we get to the white mage, Zach, and Erica, the fierce feline archer. She and Zach are traipsing about the woods, being heroes and whatnot. They see a girl calling for help, who ends up being Bekah. Bekah and Levi's henchmen take Zach back to Levi's castle, and Erica gives chase. She sneaks into Levi's castle to break Zach out.

When Erica gets to Zach's room, Levi shows up to stop them; however, before he can do this, Bekah interrupts and relays news that an ancient demon has just been awakened by Auburn and things are about to get nasty. Erica and Zach decide that they have to take on this demon and save the world!

Here is the current character line up:

This is Zach! He's a bubbly pink mermaid...and a white mage! He even charmed his cotton candy cloak to float, so he can move on land! He doesn't know much about where he came from or his past, but he has a feeling he's about to find out...

This is Erica! She's a fierce, feline archer! She is on a quest with Zach to become the greatest heroes in the world, and also recover a love lost...

King Levi. An evil black mage who came to power through inheritance (although some say he murdered his family to take the crown). Could there be more to this baddie than meets the eye?

Queen Auburn. A selfish queen who only cares about shiny and sparkly things. She loves a good cocktail.

Sybil. An evil ancient spirit who is hellbent on taking revenge on those who have wronged her.

Dale, the lightning thief! Not much is known about this swift character at this time.

Other characters include:
Ryan, the berserker

Chad, the knight

I have concepts for these characters down but have not finalized them as of yet.

Well, as for the scripts in such, there are a surprising amount of them out there, from the obvious Yanfly or Victor engine scripts (which are compatable btw) to all the random ones from contributors all over. Most scripts that are out can really be utilized to great effect, so with enough time I'm sure you could get it to work. If you can't find what you're looking for in rmmv, then perhaps something like Gamemaker would be better (though it'd be more work to code the game with this and get art assets)

As for the story, its basically Queen Auburn + lover of summons Sybil Demon to defeat King Levi and co but goes wrong? ok, cool. Question then, are Queen Auburn AND King Levi "evil" characters or antagonists at least? Are the protagonists mainly Zach and Erika (maybe Ryan and Chad as well)? Also, this henchmen Bekeh, is it a recurring character and is he always an antagonist? You could throw in a plot twist of him working for Sybil or something like that. What about Dale, is he a npc, protagonist, or antagonist?

Overall i think your project can be viable, but like any rpg maker game(or game in general) you will have to just put in the time and effort to make it work. just be sure to clearly lay out the project as best as you can and to be careful falling into too many cliches or contradictions/loopholes within the plot or gameplay i'd suggest checking out echo607's youtube "rpg maker tips n tricks" videos for a few helpful points, especially if just starting out in rpg maker

It's a strange sort of dynamic, because neither Auburn nor Levi are "good," but they're not antagonists. Levi actually ends up joining the party and being "good." Ryan, Dale, and Chad are going to be in the party as well. :)  someone does work for Sybil, but it's going to be Auburn's suitor, which is the reason he was pushing her to do it in the first place *cue dramatic music*

thanks for the tip! I'm gonna check out that video!! I started making sprites and experimenting with maps today! I've used RPG maker XP And VX/Ace before, so I'm just warming up :)  also have been doing some story board action.

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
