To clarify, I am curious about lore around heroes that just aren't that mainstream at the moment, or ever. A conversation on a forum a while back had an author talking about skunks.

Also, please don't just say what it is, explain how it is a hero. The idea being to bring new ideas to the world for developer of games, and to inspire new creations and wild dreams of amazing stories.

For me and my culture, it is the ginseng. Ginseng is often a testimony of the health of a biome, in the same way fungi are. Among all the creatures of the wild, Ginseng is a medicine to counter the animals that cursed man with disease. My family hunted ginseng for as long that I am aware of through family stories.

In our culture it's Knights of Blanik mountain. They sleep inside a mountain called Blanik and once a year they wake up to train and then go to sleep again. It is said that they will come to our aid once we'll be in the worst possible trouble. So far they haven't come yet, which is a good sign.

Mexico used to have a character called El Chapulin Colorado (the Red Cricket), who became widely popular in all of south america.
it was the creation of a Mexican comedian, and he was a kind of discount Flash, Batman or Spiderman, without superpowers, and a lot of bad luck..... but always came up on top with ingenuity, and a lot of humor.
basically, that's what we do every day: either we solve the problem, or not.... and if not, we shrug it off and keep trying.
it was customary to state, as they did in the show when somebody asked "who could help us now!", to reply "El Chapulin Colorado!", as in "who else!"

I'm an American. So I guess the current president would be an unlikely hero. :D
I never considered American to be a culture. It's more a nationality. Because there are many cultures in America. And just because you say you're American doesn't mean you don't have a different culture from me :p (I am an American too)

In case people are confused, I would define culture as people like families and their traditions.

Just trying to make a joke.

My ancestry is half Slovakian with the other half a mix of western European. I don't know how to really describe my culture beyond American, though. I understand that many different people bring their culture here and blend it in and hey, that's one of great things about this country. It really is a melting pot.

But as far as unlikely heroes go, I don't know if there's anything I could throw out there that hasn't been done to death already. Most people, I assume, are all too familiar with the stories that come out of America whether they want to be or not. Short of some communist countries that ban such things (and often fail at it), books, movies, comics, music etc. is one of our biggest exports. I don't think I could surprise many people on this topic.

The Chzek Republic has alot of things modern borrowed from many other EU members from what I was told. Before that you had the Huns, Romans, Dacians. I would think it would be some form of Semite or Aethos. If I had lineage to arabic descent or even Bedouin I would have gone with Antar :p but ya I could see the issues. I happen to be a french-african-cherokee-miami myself. the french side was very much in the indigenous side and the family did not celebrate the bootlegging french side. and my father's side is just now starting to be apart of my life really.

There is definitely such a thing as American culture. For example no other country celebrates Thanksgiving. While there are many unique ethnicities, families and traditions, there is also a mainstream current of ideas about democracy and capitalism that define our international image and influence every aspect of our lives, from religion to education to family dynamics.

That being said, I think America has a lot of heroes and heroines who are unacknowledged due to gender, ethnicity, or sometimes radical politics. That movie Hidden Figures is a good example.

Interesting! Don't know much about this but my quick web research indicates its a harvest festival formalized in the 20th century, but without specific legends like the American stories of Pilgrim/Native cooperation.

Well, a lot of indigenous Americans don't celebrate thanksgiving because after the first one, they were executed, raped, and pillaged by the pilgrims. the first thanksgiving was like the start of manifest destiny. for a lot of tribal members, it is a day of grievance and rememberence. And November is Indigenous People's Heritage Month officially on the majority of Tribal territories in America. The month for me was a time to celebrate my uncle Brokenfeather that passed a year ago in January.

Basically this is a very unusual hero... no matter where you are.
